Sorry, the fact is the richest pay almost no payroll taxes, because most of their income is capital gains. It is the middle class and poor that pay the highest percent payroll taxes. Social Security taxes in particular are a flat tax until you reach $142.8k, and then they are capped. That means they are highly regressive, not progressive. Capital gains taxes allow deductions for business losses, which payroll, and earned income taxes do not allow. That is a major tax deduction.
Then there are state and local taxes. The rich pay a lower share of these. The top 1% pays an effective state and local tax rate of 7.4%, while the bottom 20% pays a rate of 11.4%. Rather than paying no state and local taxes, they pay higher state and local taxes.
In Texas, the top 1% pays 3.1% taxes, while the bottom 20% pays 13% taxes. In Florida, the top 1% pays 2.3% taxes, while the bottom 20% pay 12.7% taxes.

Two years ago, in one post, I confused what day of the week it was. It is called "blursday", and as more and more people work longer hours, it happens more often. We forget what day of the week it is.
To show you how much I get right, they must keep referencing one minor mistake I made two years ago, which I immediately admitted, and which plays no important part in a debate.
This is where the tax debate is: one side is bringing up facts, and the other side is making personal attacks on posters.
Somehow America had no problem having the strong growth of the 50's with a top marginal tax rate of 91%. Now Republicans tell us we will destroy America if the top marginal rate is not 0%. How is that possible?
