THE WISDOM OF RONALD REAGAN

Before I share a pearl of political wisdom former Republican POTUS Ronald Reagan once cast forth in famous political speech he delivered in 1964 called "A Time for Changing", I'd like to briefly share one of his "Russian Jokes" which I thought was funny.

Reagan had a brilliant sense of humour and he said that he once went through a phase of collecting jokes that were authentically Russian, that is, actually told among the people in the former Soviet Union. One of the jokes - (the one that I will type out for you below) - Reagan said that he told to Soviet General Secretary Michael Gorbachev, and, he said," Gorbachev laughed !"

So here's the joke...

An American and a Russian are arguing about their two countries. The American said look... "I can walk into the Oval Office" any time I like and I can pound the President's desk and I can say: "Look Mr President, I don't like the way you're running our country !"

And the Russian says, "I can do that." The American says, "You can ?"

"Yes, says the Russian, I can go into the Kremlin to the General Secretary's office, pound his desk and say: Mr General Secretary, I don't like the way President Reagan is running his country!" :) :)

Reagan was an actor before he entered politics. He made some great movies in Hollywood; if you're interested in watching three of his best, and I'm sure you'll be able to access them on your computer free of charge, they are: "DARK VICTORY" (with Bette Davis and Humphrey Bogart);"SANTA FE TRAIL" (co-starring the amazing Errol Flynn) and" "KNUTE ROCKNE, ALL AMERICAN" (this is the movie that gave him his lifetime nickname, "The Gipper"). They were all fimed over 1940-1941.

THE Gipper's career as an actor ran for roughly 20 years between 1940 and 1960. In that time he was a Democrat and did many years work sitting on the Board of Directors of The Screen Actors Guild (this was essentially a labour Union. After the war Reagan was elected President of the Guild and then re-elected another six times, his final year as President of the Screen Actor's Guild was 1959.

It was around 1960 that Ronald Reagan's political sympathies changed from Democrat to Republican and his first big success came in 1964 during Republican Barry Golwater's election campaign. Reagan delivered a speech called a "Time for Choosing" on behald of Golldwater. The speech was well received, and shortly after a film recorded copy of it appeared on a popular television show called "Rendevouus with Destiny." In short it was a big hit with the public and is regarded as one of the most effective political speeches Reagan ever made. After delivering the "A Time for Choosing", Reagan was dubbed the" Great Communicator"

Here is an excerpt from "A Time for Choosing" that I think is very wise....

"The Founding Fathers knew that government can't control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. So we have come to a time for choosing...You and I are told we must choose between left and right, but I suggest there is no such thing as left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream - the maximum freedom consistent with law and order - or down to that ant-heap of totalitarianism."

Reagan conducted himself with class. Sadly, that is a trait that the current president does not have. That said, "Reaganomics" turned out to be quite a bust.

Reagan was suffering Alzheimer's long before the people found out. That is probably what explains his conversion to the Repubs.
Reagan started the debt does not matter theme of the Repubs. He started the government is the problem, not the solution nonsense. Trump started the incredible debt that the rightys decry.
He was also a shitty actor who was a talking head for 20 Mule Team Borax theater, Death Valley Days for years when he could not get roles.
The genius Reagan had a fucking astrologer in the Whitehouse.

And how soon people forget about Iran-Contra. Not exactly the most LEGAL endeavor taken by his Administration. That said, I would vote for another Reagan ten times over instead of the nutjob that we currently have now.

By presidential standards, Ronald Reagan was a moron and a complete intellectual lightweight.

It does not cut the mustard to juxtapose Bedtime for Bonzo with jokes that purport to shine a spotlight on the lack of freedom in the USSR.

Ronald Reagan did not give a rat's ass about the freedom and human rights of Russian people.

If you want a spokesperson for Russian freedom and dignity, look to Andrei Saharov and the Soviet dissidents. Who you might be surprised to learn received substantial support from Jimmy Carter, more so than from Bedtime for Bonzo.

Ronald Reagan did not genuinely give a rat's ass about human freedom and human dignity more generally.
If an evil dictator was rightwing and conservative, Reagan could not contain his love and support for them.

Reagan was a pawn of the military industrial complex and of American corporate hegemony. His only interest was securing, maintaining, and prolonging American global political and economic hegemony. He literally did not genuinely give a shit about freedom, human dignity, free and fair elections, or democracy.

Reaganomics is a leftist made up meme. So how was Reagan's economic policy a bust? Be specific.

Nothing you post is fact based and most of it is lunatic garbage. You really should seek out a mental health expert. ;)

No one cares how you will vote now.
