Their name is Legion

So ... who came up with the 'Son of God' tag line?

Later christian tradition. The later Gospel of John was the first to directly claim Jesus, the living man, was God protected into human form. I think Mathew has Jesus becoming divine, but only after his baptism by John.

The earliest Gospel, Mark, makes no claim that Jesus was God during the time of his ministry, making it inconceivable that supposed journalists and historians of 30 AD should have been swarming around Jesus during his life to report on his moves and activities.

Jesus during his lifetime would have been like Confucius and Buddha - utterly obscure and not of any particular note to his contemporaries.

Even magazines were becoming rare. Newspapers almost nonexistent by the time I retired. After flights, the crew would scour the cabin for reading material on the way back.

Most common were USA Today, WSJ and tabloid magazines. Occasionally there was an Economist, Time or some other magazine worth reading.

In those days pilots carried about 40 pounds of paper in their flight bags. Then, about 10 years ago, we were issued iPads. Huuuuge fucking difference when walking around between flights or between Airport-Hotel.

I do like the advantage of being able to carry a library in a 3ounce digital device

If Jesus offered himself as a 'Prophet' he might have been better believed. The 'Son of God' label is more like a Trump Self-Promotion technique. It seems that when Jesus 'failed to Return', all his Followers started making up Magic stuff. Which makes it pretty lame that it can't stand up on what it Proposes as Values.

Uh, yeah. Sure.

Only a fucking moron cherry picks answers.

If you, or anyone else, is going to use the Bible in their argument then they are stuck with the entire fucking book.

Get a clue, friend. Don't be a dumbass cocksucker like those Faux Christians or Christian-haters. :)

Pretty sure there was never a 'Man-God'.
The 'entire fucking book' seems to have been compiled 300 years later by a team of 400 Religious Quacks that 'picked and choosed' what their favorite Story was.

Here's a Clue for you: The Christian Bible is the foundation of a Slave Religion, for people that want to survive the Roman Occupation.

When you get on your knees and pray to a Statue of Jesus, do you feel it is a False Idol?

In the earlier Christian writings, like Paul and the synoptic gospels, Jesus never presents himself as God. There is an implication that he might be the Son of Man, an ancient Hebrew prophecy; a human figure that is God's prophet rendering God's judgement.

It is not until you get to 95AD and later Christian writings that Jesus is elevated to God himself.

The act of turning Jesus into God was a tradition of how later christians came to view Jesus.

I do not see how Jesus himself is to be blamed for how later christians came to think of him.

The historical Jesus was an obscure Jewish preacher and moral philosopher during his lifetime, and I think that is all the historical record can really say.

Looks like he pissed off the Jewish Elders. So much that they wanted him killed off.

Okay. Feel better, Jack? You didn't shart yourself typing that, didja? ;)

I kneel before no statues. What bug is up your ass about Jesus, Jack?

Agreed. I vaguely recall a few differences of opinion regarding the divinity of Jesus. Some thought he was and some thought he wasn't although both sides declared themselves to be Christians.
Lots of blood spilled over it, IIRC. We can see who won. :)

The Irish seemed to have a similar dispute with some "Troubles" back in the 60s, IIRC.

Ya think? Jesus fucking Christ, Jack, what the fuck do you think Jesus was trying to do? How many kids were in your class at school?

I find it interesting how people in the 21st Century still believe in a 'Man-God'. All the Rulers in the Past used the same technique, claiming to be 'descended from the Gods'.

LOl duck butter dutch trying to school people about religion . He must need a break from his perverted porno or drug use.

Claim he was 'God on Earth'. Possibly a 'Jim Jones'/'David Koresh' type. The local Religious types didn't seem to like him.

Meh. People believe different things. I have no problem with it.

OTOH, if people start violently acting on those beliefs, such as trying to overthrow the government or plant a bomb to murder women and children, then I have a problem with it.
