Well Frank, if “your side,” really wants witnesses, why didn’t they subpoena them in their House hearings? Actually Frank the House has the “sole” authority to “impeach.” That means the “House” Frank has to make a case for removing a President & all civil officers of the United States. Read your Constitution Frank! The Senate has the sole authority to hear the House case and thereby the Senators are to be the jury to decide if a President or others should be removed from office as proven guilty by the House case presented. The Senate has no mandate to supply witnesses.
Look at the House witness list Frank. They claim they didn’t subpoena the Trump administration officers was because it would take too long to fight a Trump “Executive Privilege” claim in the courts, (a claim, by the way, Trump never made) he simply implied he would make that claim. Too long for what Frank? Why would they believe it would be quicker for the Senate to do it Frank? They don’t even believe they could win that court fight Frank! They don’t even know what those witnesses would say if they were to appear. You need to “know” or have strong suspicions based on facts Frank that those witnesses or documents have relevant evidence to present Frank, Where’s the evidence for that Frank?
I can plainly see why the Republicans don’t want any witnesses. They know there is no relevant impeach-able case to remove Trump. They know the evidence and witnesses that the House did present has more exculpatory evidence to favor Trump than to convict Trump. They know they, (the Republicans) can make a constitutional case that the House impeachment charges don’t even meet the constitutional requirements to impeach a President. Why would they want or need witnesses Frank? Why would they be that stupid Frank?

Hey Frank, do you believe “your side” actually thinks the Senate can get the Trump “Executive Privilege” claim through the court before the election? Do you think they believe they can win that case in a Supreme Court with 5 Republican judges Frank? Think Frank! They simply want to force the Senate to prolong this farce all the way to the election to simply hold it over the head of Trump and smear him with it. It’s elementary my dear Frank!

I see Trump as an existential threat to our nation and its institutions. Hundred, perhaps thousands, of op ed and editorial pieces have been written enumerating the issues that prompt that opinion...but I think we can agree that you will not see them as such.

I listen to what Trump says and watch what he does...and I see incompetency, chaos, and classlessness.
The Senate is mandated to TRY the charges. Doing that requires the documents and witnesses that are being asked for. If, as you seem to think, the House was deficient in their duty t obtain them...that does not relieve the Senate from its responsibility.
In my opinion, "the House didn't do it" is nothing more than an excuse to justify the Senate performing a pro forma trial.
In any case, an excellent case is being made that subpoena power for witnesses and documents will ultimately rest with the Chief Justice...and that the power of the Senate to overrule him is not as easily obtained as has been supposed.
We will see as the trial progresses.
