On 17 April 2001, James Lee testified, before the McKinney panel, that the state had given DBT the directive to add to the purge list people who matched at least 90% of a last name. DBT objected, knowing that this would produce a huge number of false positives (non-felons).[4]
Lee went on saying that the state then ordered DBT to shift to an even lower threshold of 80% match, allowing also names to be reversed (thus a person named Thomas Clarence could be taken to be the same as Clarence Thomas). Besides this, middle initials were skipped, Jr. and Sr. suffixes dropped, and some nicknames and aliases were added to puff up the list.
"DBT told state officials", testified Lee, "that the rules for creating the [purge] list would mean a significant number of people who were not deceased, not registered in more than one county, or not a felon, would be included on the list. DBT made suggestions to reduce the numbers of eligible voters included on the list". According to Lee, to this suggestion the state told the company, "Forget about it".
"The people who worked on this (for DBT) are very adamant... they told them what would happen", said Lee. "The state expected the county supervisors to be the failsafe." Lee said his company will never again get involved in cleansing voting rolls. "We are not confident any of the methods used today can guarantee legal voters will not be wrongfully denied the right to vote", Lee told a group of Atlanta-area black lawmakers in March 2001.[7]

When numbers are posted regarding demographics, it doesn't matter the sex/age/race. They reference 'eligible' voters.

Are you claiming that voter stats by demographic do not use eligible voters as their foundation? Can you cite ANY study that uses total population vs. those who voted?

What exactly are you getting at?

The bottom line, Black voters are intentionally suppressed in just about every state.

They are not, nor have the ever been, the reason why a candidate lost.

The racist right has been suppressing and lying on Black voters for decades.

If you're trying to refute that, don't bother. I don't believe it.

YOU can think they are the reason Hilary lost, makes me no difference.
 
The percentage of black registered voters also declined. That would obviously not include felons because they cannot legally register. If registered black voters had turned out for Hillary like they did for Obama in WI we would not be stuck with Trump. That does not mean black voters were to blame, just one fact about election turnout.

Andrew Gillum needs the support of black voters to become Florida’s first black governor. But he faces a major obstacle: A provision of the Florida Constitution with Jim Crow–era roots prevents more than 1.5 million Floridians — a disproportionate number of whom are black — from voting at all.

Like three other states, Florida permanently blocks people with felony convictions from voting. But the state’s process for restoring voting rights to people who have served their time is uniquely harsh: Felons can win back their voting rights only by appealing directly to the governor and other state officials. It can take years to win a hearing. Because of this, Florida is home to more disenfranchised felons than any other state. In 2016 the policy blocked more than 10 percent of the voting-age population and more than 20 percent of African-Americans from casting a ballot.

But this fall, organizers see a rare opportunity to overcome that barrier. Voters in November will weigh in on a proposed constitutional amendment to automatically restore voting rights to most people who complete their sentences for felony convictions. (People convicted of murder and sexual offenses would be excluded.) Observers think the proposal could benefit Gillum by encouraging unlikely voters to go to the polls because they know someone disenfranchised because of a felony conviction.

Groups supporting the proposal, known as Amendment 4, have emphasized the personal stories of disenfranchised people to motivate people to go to the polls.

“We definitely know that family members, friends, colleagues — people who are familiar with the pain somebody else might be going through — are willing to show up and be their voices,” said Neil Volz, the political director for the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, the main group pushing the amendment. “Bloodlines are a really powerful connector, and people who know somebody who’s directly impacted have a real personal reason to get out and vote.” He cannot vote in the state because of a felony conviction.

What are YOU getting at? You posted an article that I've been hearing a lot about on Public Radio. You then tried to conflate two different issues...voter eligibility, and voter turnout. See Flash's post re. the issue. Maybe you just don't like to hear it from me.

Nobody is 'blaming blacks'. They were one of two important demographics that couldn't be bothered to vote. Kids were worse w/respect to turnout.

Arguably, two demographics that will suffer the most under trump.

Here's my problem

You claim they can't be bothered to vote, but most can't vote.

Oh and Flash's post is full of shit as well.

They always skew polls to get the results they want.

And the results they want is for white America to think Blacks can't be bothered to vote and/or they only turned out for a Black man.

People turned out, 3 million more that voted for Hilary......it's the racist white man who cheated to put dump in office, not low voter turn out or low Black and "kid" voter turnout.

Why can't you see the BS they are feeding you?............because you don't want to see it. You're content with Blaming Blacks.

The requirements for blacks and whites when it comes to ID is the same. Why are blacks less capable than whites in getting one?
