I see numerous people complaining on Facebook about the number of people who don’t vote. Yet, as we see here, people complain about low information voters. So which is it? Should people who don’t follow politics, and definitely aren’t policy wonks, vote anyway?

You may have posed one of the critical questions of our time.
I lean toward only politically sophisticated people voting,
but more effort being made to teach the principles of fascist oligarchy and democratic socialism so that either way, people understand what the only real choices are.

We just need to decide if the republic is worth saving, and it doesn't seem that we'll even be able to do that.

I don't understand the latter. It should be obvious that the fifty-state American model is a complete failure.

Unity isn't something you're going to find in a highly diverse society. Humans are tribal by design and sometimes by necessity.

For me it's two different issues. In a perfect world everyone should learn as much as possible about a potential candidate and not be swayed by celebrity and lack of substance. In the real world though, it does happen. I believe all people eligible to vote should vote... even with mail-in ballots because of circumstances beyond our control.

The reality is a number of people don’t follow politics on a regular basis and outside of the Presidential race know little about their other representatives. But of course many of us equate “informed voters” with those who vote like we do. Because we all fancy ourselves informed and if anyone votes like we do then...

But for those who want to make voting mandatory or keep telling everyone to vote you get people voting who probably aren’t all that informed (regardless of how they vote).
