Most of us I believe are adults, and as such should be capable of ignoring the trolls instead of going in the mud with them.
Here is a suggestion. If you do away with the thread ban, enable "quote notification". Why? Because not only do I know if someone responded to my post, but I can decide right away if I want to respond or not.
