The remora of JPP
Sometimes when people panic they don't think calmly and rationally. You really can't fathom that?
Basically you're saying he's inadequately trained. So it's the fault of the trainer and the company.

Unqualified to read the signs?
Unqualified to drive in the mountains.
Let's say you are driving YOUR car. And the brakes go out. Do you take the ramp SPECIFICALLY BUILT AT GREAT EXPENSE to save your life (and everybody elses), or do you go for a zany joyride as you descend from 8,000 feet?
(Yes, I'm aware Eagle Eye would take the Joyride)![]()
Of course I would take the ramp. If there's no ramp and I'm driving a car, I would just get on the grass to slow it down.
Yeah. The grass. Not real sure how much 'grass' is alongside mountain roads.
Why did he NOT take the 'Runaway Truck' ramp? Too stupid? Unqualified? Not aware of what a 'Runaway Truck' ramp was? Some Flatlander first time driving in 'mountains'?
You very well could be correct in all your observations.
THESE ... are 'mountain roads':

This guy KNEW the brakes were not working properly.
He had stopped to see they were smoking ...but got back in the cab and kept driving anyway.
And most of you think he should only get 2 years in jail for killing 4 people.
How many people would this guy had to have killed before you knuckleheads would agree to give this person hard time?
10?
20?
40?
80?
Just give us a number?
So you think it's intentional homicide?
I would think:
Vehicular Manslaughter with Gross Negligence
'and the maximum felony sentence is six (6) years in state prison'

Anyone that has driven a tractor-trailer (like me) knows that brakes are absolutely critical...far more so than on a car/SUV.
And this guy KNEW that his brakes were not working properly.
Yet he knowingly drove down a steep hill with lots of traffic around.
To me?
This is CLEARLY, gross negligence.
.
A few weeks ago JPP folks were all upset about a couple deaths caused by Kyle in Wisconsin ... and now you've got a perp that murdered four people in Colorado and you want him let go ... with time served. NOT ONE OF YOU KYLE HATERS EVER SUGGESTED LETTING KYLE OFF WITH TIME SERVED ... but now it's OK because hojo was against Kyle ...
THE MAGIC OF HYPOCRISY
The question has not been answered. Why miss the runaway ramp that is clearly marked?
What's the difference between him and an ill-trained idiot working for minimum wage? The ramp to me is secondary.
If he had - once he saw his brakes were in rough shape/smoking - stopped driving and at least waited until they cooled down (heat dissipation can - sometimes - greatly improve brake performance)?
He probably would not have been in the situation of needing the ramp in the first place.
My main problem is that he actually got out of his cab and saw that his brakes were smoking.
Yet got back in the cab and drove down a steep hill anyway?
This proves that he KNEW that his brakes were marginal at best.
Yet he knowingly took a huge risk, nonetheless.
