Malarkeyville

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump refused to condemn white supremacists. On Wednesday, he appeared to blame suburban, low-income people of color for “ruining this American dream.”

“By the way, just so we can get this straight, 30 percent of the people in the suburbs are low-income people. Thirty percent of the people in the suburbs are minorities. And so we’re ruining this American dream for everybody,” Trump said.

"They zone you out, they build low-income housing next to your house," Trump continued. "And then I hear I'm not doing well in the suburbs. I'm not doing well in the suburbs — are you people crazy?

Appeared? How can you see based on where you have your head, boy?

There may not be much the left and right agrees on but this is one of them. Left wing NIMBYs won't use the racial rhetoric Trump does when talking about the suburbs but their actions to protect 'neighborhood character' and prevent development, especially multi-family, is the exact same.

I wish that was true.

What is not true about what I said?

Leftists don't try to keep neighborhoods white. Of course we all want this and that includes Leftists. But left-wing politicians don't fight for white spaces like the Right does.
There are a lot of Rightists who agree with left-wing economic policy, so I do wonder if the Democrats would be able to win elections if they started dog whistling like Republicans.

Clearly you aren't familiar with the NIMBYism, that to many is like a religion, in large coastal areas. Leftists don't say it's in the name of keeping neighborhoods white, thus why I commented they don't use the racial rhetoric Trump does. But what they do is block new development, especially any non-single family homes, in the name of neighborhood character etc. It's why the whole progressive YIMBY movement started. If you aren't familiar with it research it.

I'm familiar with it. That's why I said that left-wing politicians don't fight for white spaces. There are some Leftists who do this, but their numbers are so low, that they're not represented in mainstream left-wing politics. I'd compare this to SJW Liberals. They exist, but they're so rare, that their interests have never made it to the mainstream.

Now don't get me wrong, most white people do want their neighborhoods to remain as white as possible. But because Liberals are more susceptible to Multiracialism, they're less likely to take any action.

Left wing NiMBYism is the exact same thing Trump is proposing. Keep non single family development out of the suburbs. Ultimately it’s a wealth thing, not a race thing. But since Asians and whites tend to have more wealth it means less blacks and Hispanics in the neighborhood.

It's definitely a race thing. The suburbs have always been the destination of white flight, regardless of class.

Yes, Nimbys want the same thing. But because they're very rare on the Left, they haven't been able to influence the mainstream Left.
The Right has always tried to play both sides of the fence when it comes to race, but there has always been a consistent right-wing voice for racial separation and that's why Trump became so popular so fast, despite being mentally challenged and corrupt to the point where it's actually funny.

Starting back in 1977, families living in housing projects began to be relocated to middle-class suburban neighborhoods with good public schools. If these families could see a different way of life, the middle-class way of life, they could learn to live like the middle class – or so everyone thought.

Eventually, the federal government poured $6.3 billion into a program called HOPE VI, or “Housing Opportunities for People Everywhere.” Tens of thousands of public-housing tenants all over the country were leaving the projects and moving to suburbia.

But then the crime rate started to go up in suburbia where they moved. As one former housing project tenant said: “You move from one place to another and you bring the element with you. You got some [people] trying to make it just like the projects.”

We know how this will go, because this is not a new idea, it has been tried and failed before. Besides, poor people tend to not want to live where they need a car, which tends to be the case with suburban low income housing...no car means either no job or lots of time spent on commute to a low paying job....it is not good for those who want to make something of their lives. The only thing good about it is that the schools tend to be better, but with as bad as schools are overall and with learning considered "acting white" and a bad thing that matters a lot less than it used to.

What are you talking about? NIMBYs dominate California politics as well as other big coastal cities. And this is far bigger than Trump. NIMBYism has been around long before him and will be around long after.

What mainstream left-wing politicians would you say have NIMBY policies?

Yes, when it comes to racial dog whistles, Trump isn't anything new, he's just more obvious.

Da fuq? Most of this happens at the state and local level. When was the last time a question about housing was asked to a Presidential candidate?

Can you find trump denouncing White Supremacists? That seems to be the new talking point.

As cruz said, he is on every side of every issue.......

He says something, then says the opposite, he walks it back, next day he walks it back up again........

It is clear what he said in the debate............ Those that wish to hear something else-hear something else.......

Even limbaugh called it along w/ many others in the gop........... No doubt they'll be doing some walking back as well......:nodyes:

NIMBY often refers to pro fracking, pro drilling, pro pipeline GOP who don't want any of it near their properties.
