They moved to impeach after the Watergate Committee found ample evidence Nixon attempted to cover up the break-in and on July 24 the Supreme Court ruled Nixon had to turn over the tapes. Nixon would not have resigned because of the demonstrations alone but because the investigation led to enough evidence to support his impeachment and removal. I'm not suggesting the marches were not a factor, but not enough to bring him down absent the investigation and tape decision.

Even after Texas was voting Republican for all state-wide offices the Democrats still had more House members from Texas. Why? Gerrymandering. The party that controls the state gerrymanders for its advantage.
