An "impeachment conviction" does mean being tossed out of office. It's what the Senate trial does or does not do. Unfortunately, in the Trump cases, especially the second when there were enough Republican senators who wanted never to see him in the WH again, the Senate failed to convict.

There was only one impeachment, and that had no specifications. The Senate recognized that impeaching a President because you hate his guts is not an impeachable offense.
The '2nd impeachment' occurred after Trump left office. It was discarded for that reason.
