Ignorance is quite definitely a noun. It would be ignorant that would not be a noun. That would be an adjective.

I assume Nomad had wanted to say either, "because you ARE the ignorant one", or "because you ARE ignorant." From the context, it was easy to understand, for those of us that are not ignorant.

The way I used it was as a figure of speech.

Adjectives can be used as nouns when referring to a group of people who share a trait.

For example: "Only the Strong survive".

Strong is an adjective but in this case it's used to refer to a group of people.

Or that old Roy Orbison song "Only The Lonely".

Or China Joe is a long standing member of the ignorant.

Lonely is an adjective but once again, it can be used to describe a group of people and is a common manner of speaking as well as a literary device.
