Trump tariffs create budget surplus

For the first time since Trump's first term, the federal government has a budget surplus due to tariffs taken in. You're not likely to hear about that on any MSM news channel other than maybe FOX.

US government reports historic $258 billion surplus boosted by tariff revenues

A tariff is a tax PAID BY THE IMPORTER...and almost always passed on to the consumers.

So, Trump is raising taxes on consumers (mostly from the lower end of the wealth scale) in order to "balance the budget"...which really means "to give more tax breaks to the very wealthy."

And you applaud!

Oh, well. You will learn...and I suspect it will be quickly.

Let's hope that's a true report and Trump can start paying off the national debt....which he just raised with his BBB.

From your link:
Despite the large surplus for April 2025, national debt continues to rise, with the U.S. government's debt sitting at $36.212 trillion.

Total bullshit. Tariffs are paid by the seller to gain access to the market.

They may or may not raise their prices; so far imports to the US have DECREASED IN PRICE.

Why are leftists always so utterly ignorant of the real world?

With tariffs as high as Trump is saying he is going to put on exporters / manufactures they will pass most of them on to the retailer who will pass them on to the consumer and as I have said before I would not put it past any of them to add an extra 1 or 2 % to the cost blame the tariffs and pad their bottom line.
With the few tariffs Trump has already put in place we can see prices of things already going up.
Back in Apr he put a 10% tariff on Columbia and a month or so ago coffee was 14.99 and now is 16.99 a 13 % increase , and he has raised the tariff on Columbia to 25 % so expect it to go up more.
Autos are up any where from a thousand or so to over 7000 dollars.
Slowing sales and the American auto makers are starting to lay people off.
And with 8 people being employed in supporting industries for ever 1 auto worker that will have a ripple effect down the line.
And not ALL of Trumps tariffs are in place yet, IF he ever stops all his flip flopping and does put them on you will see the cost of just about everything going up and up.
Heck his tariff on copper and rare earth metals is going to drive up the cost of just about everything mechanical.
No Trump's tariff will be passed on to the consumer as we have already seen being done.

You are so wrong...it is pathetic.

The IMPORTER pays the tariffs.

You are totally ignorant of tariffs...and almost certainly of the real world also.

Folks...so that there is no misunderstanding about this:

TARIFFS ARE PAID BY THE IMPORTER...WHO ALMOST ALWAYS PASSES ON THE COSTS OF THE TARIFFS TO THE CONSUMER.

If the ignorant right-wingers want to dream otherwise, let them. Most of them are here just to waste oxygen.

You are exactly right. There's a reason why Walmart and other retailers are mighty unhappy. That pair of jeans you could buy at Walmart last year for $25 is going to go up because of the tariffs. Walmart isn't going to eat that new tax. YOU will pay that new tax. Reichwingers appear to be extremely uninformed about what tariffs are, as you pointed out. @Grokmaster -- copied from Google AI.

If imported prices go up it makes domestic producers more competitive. More domestic production means more American jobs.

Oh, so you think because you Googled it and some AI gave you an answer, it's the correct one? AI often sucks hard--like some other things, hint, hint--at giving a correct answer.

Even your answer above is simply a dodge of the truth. There was a budget surplus in June, and there may be surpluses in the future too. It's simply sour grapes to project that the yearly budget will run a deficit, and even if it does, how much was that reduced over a no change in tariffs scenario. Your idiot AI didn't consider that.

MAGAts are heavily invested in believing everything the Trump WH spews on them.

In the end, all that matters is if the national debt goes up or if it goes down. Due to Trump's BBB, I suspect it will only go up. This is no longer the Republican Party that stood for fiscal responsibility and personal accountability.

Yes, our economy is running on crack now. As soon as the effect of the tariffs hit consumers, incomes, and thus tax revenues will drop and as the deficit grows, we're all hurtling towards disaster.

"Trump and members of his administration tout the positive economic reports as signs that tariffs are working. However, the chorus of concern is growing: Prices are moving higher, and economists say this is just the beginning."

I hope the trump cult enjoys this short-term glory :)
