Not a lawyer, but it appears to be robbery on the high seas. Iran doesn't own the Strait. Freedom of Navigation is a matter of international law.

That said, as long as they are under attack, it's war, which alters the equation. The US controlled who passed along Iraqi and Afghan roads. I fail to see how any waterways under their control can't be done by the Iranians.

I don't like it, but they didn't start this war despite all the bullshit coming from the MAGA morons. Tertia Optio was working but Trump fucked it up for unknown reasons...but probably as an Epstein distraction and to massage his fragile ego.

They weren't a nuclear threat and it is very unlikely that they'd have fired missiles directly at the US when their proxies terrorists were doing it.

There is no reason to start this war although I'd readily agree the US should have still been working the covert ops angle and supporting our allies in the region to box-in the Iranians. The United States taught them a harsh lessen in 1987. They may be the Islamic version of Evangelical nutjobs, but they aren't stupid nor impatient. They are patient unlike US politicians running for reelection.
