At one time futures were selling in the negative .
The Saudi oil price war was more devastating to the US oil drillers /producers then COVID was,
They could have survived COVID because they would just have cut production or we could have cut our imports and used more American produced oil.
But Trump and the right used COVID for an excuse NOT the Saudis almost giving it away for free.

The American voters want the border secured and illegals deported and Trump has said he will do just that.

The Sadis and the American drillers were experiencing the SAME problem. World wide consumption was down we were actually out producing the Saudis. The reason oil was sell at a negative is there was no place to store it. It would have been the PREFECT TIME to fill the SPR but the dumbass Democrats hated Trump more than they love the American people so they refuse Trump's move to fill the SPR by blocking funding.

We import in the area of 6 to 8 MBPD of oil to make the fuel and gas we use here.
IN fact I read the other day the CEOs of some of the oil companies have said they believe a 20% tariff on oil could raise the price of gas about a dollar and fuel costs even more so that will go up even more , Everything you buy has been on a truck some time during manufacturing or from the plant where it was made and delivered to the store you bought it in so that will effect the price too.
And as it is now there are a LOT of thing we need and buy that we do not make here so I guess you will have to go without things you need.

And the did this just before COVID hit, most of the damage to the US oil industry was already done before COVID hit,
US Production went down in late fall of 2019 ,

And their sales will go down and a lot of American workers in a lot of industries will lose their jobs and will like the economists say cause a recession / depression.
We will have to see what Trump does and how it works out.

US oil production in late 2019 and early 2020 was over 12.8 MBPD and max was 12.94 MBPD in Nov 2019 .
then started dropping because of the oil price war and went down to 9.7 MBPD in Nov 2020.
it was in the high 12 MBPD under Trump and went down to the 11 MBPD range and was 9.7 MBPD in Feb 2021 and has now been in the very high 12s and a lot of 13 MBPD months ever since Aug, 2023.
And I have to ask when were the reserves drained?
was it when Trump was in and why ?
and I agree when the Saudis were selling it so cheap we should have filled them.

Biden tried to do what he thought best when he first took over and was shot down by the courts the ONLY thing that they let him do was shut down the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. A pipeline the Right lied about and was telling people it was carrying oil to the gulf when it wasn't it was ONLY something like 6 or 8% complete and NEVER delivered a drop of oil.
That is when Biden decided to work with in the system and get what he wanted in other ways.
The US oil industry has made a GREAT come back from the mess Trump left them in.
It has now been producing RECORD amounts of oil ever since Aug 2023.
Trump says drill baby drill but just about every drilling rig in the US is already busy drilling and it will take a lot of time and money to build new ones to do all this drilling he wants

I would venture to say I know a WHOLE LOT more about the oil business than a random electrician does. My dad worked in the Petro- chemical industry for over 40 years. I grew up in l a major oil producing area of Texas. I have several close family members that work in the refinery business. I was partners with a petroleum geologist for several years. I'm invested in several producing oil wells that my partner developed and sold to a Texas independent oil wildcatter. I had a rule , if my partner personally retained shares of the oil well I also invested in the well. We hit more than we missed. So I watch the ups and downs of the petroleum industry very closely. When oil goes up I make more money when it goes down I make less. AGAIN oil production went down because world wide consumption went down. 2019-2020.

In 2019 oil opened at $46.31 averaged $56.99 and closed at $61.14 a 35.42% increase over 2018.
In 2020 oil prices collapsed due to a sharp decrease in World Wide consumption due to COVID. Opened at $61.17 averaged at $39.68 and closed at $48.52 a 20.64% decrease over 2019.
