If Mexico becomes part of the USA, there would literally be an open border. Mexicans would be allowed to move anywhere in the USA they want, as all would be citizens of the USA.

Any Mexican illegal aliens would no longer be deportable, because they would be US citizens. Mexican illegal aliens who committed crimes could still be sent to prison, but when released would have an absolute right to settle anywhere in the USA they wanted.

Canada has a huge foreign born population that would become American citizens.

So why do you want to add 170 million foreigners as American citizens immediately?

Obviously America already snagged as much land from Mexico as we actually wanted back in 1848 but there's a kernel of interesting possible truth in your comment.

The real way to solve our "border crisis" and pretty much 99% of illegal immigration is if we exerted more influence on and stabilization of the governments and economies of Meso America. Sure, it's Colonialism 101, and it's pretty repulsive to think what we'd have to do to enact it, but if we really want to stop the immigration crisis the KEY is to stop the ECONOMIC DRAW to America.

If you can even out the economies between the US and Mexico there's no real pull to get into America. The ones who then still try are a more manageable number. FAR more so.

There's another method to achieve this as well, but no one is gonna like it. It involves arresting and imprisoning Americans who knowingly hire illegal workers. But that reeks of "personal responsibility" and we Americans don't "do that".

There's NO REASON for Canada to want to hitch its wagon to America. LOL. They are NOT like Americans. They are far more commonly decent to each other, they get single payer healthcare (so they don't spend all day everyday worrying about unemployment taking away healthcare) and they have their own culture and society.

Basically Canada is safe. This is just stupidity that will pass. Trump may hang onto the Panama Canal for a while because it fits in with the "grievance economy" that MAGA operates on and it has a bete noir in the form of Jimmy Carter (PBUH).

The Greenland thing is far too "esoteric" for long-term Trump attention. The only thing that MIGHT be of value for Greenland is to get the REE's that are going to become more available as the ice sheet shrinks due to global warming. But that's a bit off in time and would require far too much infrastructure cost to get up and running, so Trump'll drop it once the "shockvalue" of saying it in the first place wears off.

In 2028 the next President will rule only over 50 states, no new protectorates, no new treaties to control the Canal. Nothing like that.
