A Florida man who killed his wife and posted a photo of the bloody corpse on Facebook was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder after failing to convince a jury that he shot her eight times in self-defense.

"She was trying to take me out," Medina said in the statement.

A medical examiner, however, testified that the eight shots were all fired downward toward Alfonso and that the position of her body on the kitchen floor indicated she had been cowering on her knees when killed.

Defense attorneys sought unsuccessfully to admit evidence from a purported "shadow" expert they said indicated two upright figures were fighting in reflections in the kitchen's stainless steel sink.

Medina was also convicted of illegally firing a weapon inside a dwelling and with child neglect because Alfonso's 10-year-old daughter was in the home at the time of the slaying.

An Illinois woman stabbed her husband in the chest and arm at a bar less than a week after their wedding, investigators revealed Thursday.

Gennifer Yoakum, 31, was arrested and could face charges of aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon.

A Kansas man must serve 15 years in federal prison for flying an Ohio girl to Texas, taking her on a spring break cruise and having sex with her.

The 44-year-old Grimm pleaded guilty to transporting a minor across state lines for criminal sexual activity. Grimm knew the 15-year-old girl when he lived in Ohio.

Prosecutors say Grimm had an online relationship with the teen, paid for her flight from Cleveland to Houston, drove her to Galveston and they took a Caribbean cruise.

Grimm was arrested when the ship returned and an officer checking disembarking passengers noticed the man and girl had different last names and weren't related.

Grimm still faces child pornography production counts in Kansas.

A Staten Island couple was arrested after leaving their 11-month-old girl alone in an empty hotel room while they went out for drinks, police and court documents charge.

Jenna Roloph, 28, and Douglas Lopez, 31, returned tipsy to their baby girl after they left her alone for an hour and 20 minutes in room 502 at a Holiday Inn.

Police are investigating a Florida woman who duct taped her pup’s mouth shut for barking — and then bragged about her cruel disciplinary techniques by sharing a picture of the suffering pooch online.

“This is what happens when you dont shut up!!!” Katie Brown posted on Facebook Friday along with a photo of her chocolate lab with heavy duty tape wrapped around its muzzle.

Police have arrested a Ventura resident for allegedly having sex with a minor. Jonathan Burton, 24, now faces multiple child molestation charges.

Authorities say they contacted Burton after receiving a report of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. Police located the victim who told them that Burton had used a social networking website to contact her and lure her into a sexual relationship.

Burton allegedly sent lewd photos to the victim as well as solicited lewd photos from her. He was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives served a search warrant for Burton's residence in an unincorporated area of Ventura and discovered evidence leading them to believe there may be more underage victims.

Burton was booked at Ventura County Jail and charged with: Unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor; Oral copulation with a minor; Penetration by a foreign object with a minor; Contacting a minor for sex; Luring a minor for lewd conduct; Sending harmful matter to a minor; and Possession of child pornography.

A Muncie man is behind bars on child molestation charges and he’s blaming the victim for the abuse.

Trevor Wages is accused of molesting a 7-year-old girl. She told investigators the abuse caused her pain.

Wages was interviewed by investigators and told them an incident happened with the girl two years ago, when the victim was 5 years old.

He said he was asleep when the child "touched him inappropriately".

He claimed he was drinking that night and was unable to move.

Court documents show Wages stated he “attempted to call for help, but the juvenile put her hand over his mouth preventing him from crying for help.”

Court records also show Wages claimed he was eventually able to push the child away.

When investigators asked about the allegations that he abused the girl, he denied the report saying, “guys get raped too, not just women.”

Authorities have charged a New Florence man with homicide after he allegedly shot a St. Clair police officer responding to a domestic violence call.

A tip led troopers to Ray Shetler Jr., 31, who was found walking along a road about 3 a.m. Sunday near a power plant just outside of New Florence. He is accused of shooting Officer Lloyd Reed Jr., 54, on Saturday night after Reed responded to a reported domestic situation at a home on Ligonier Street. Reed was pronounced dead at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown.

State police on Sunday charged Shetler with one count of criminal homicide. Online court records indicate he has not yet been arraigned. Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck said he also would be charged with two other counts related to the domestic situation.

Reed arrived at the scene and identified himself as a police officer before shots were fired, Peck said.

A Bentonville swim coach was arrested for the second time Sunday afternoon in Tulsa (Nov. 29) on lewd molestation and soliciting child porn charges.

Stephen Duwel, 50, is behind bars at the Tulsa County Jail. His bond has been set at $65,000.

Duwel has been arrested before in Benton County, on a charge of sexually assaulting a juvenile.

Duwel, the Northwest Arkansas Aquatics Sharks head coach, was first arrested in July, after police said he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy.

Police documents showed Duwel had met the Northwest Arkansas teenager on the application “Grindr.” Grindr labels itself as a service for finding local “gay, bi and curious guys.”

The police report said the boy had set his age as 18 on the application, but later told Duwel he was only 14. Police said Duwel proceeded to meet with the boy several times, and performed a sex act on the minor.

A monthlong search for an elderly Montana woman and her son has ended in tragedy after authorities said they recovered their bodies in a rural dumpsite.

The discovery of Beverly Giannonatti, 79, and her 57-year-old son, Greg, came with news that authorities are holding a person of interest in the case, which involves a missing 25-pound gold bar.

David Wayne Nelson, 53, was taken into custody for a probation violation, and made a court appearance Monday. He is being held without bail.

State prison records show Nelson has served time for felony aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, robbery and burglary.

Powell County Sheriff Scott Howard, speaking at a news conference, said authorities had been eyeing Nelson in connection to the Deer Lodge case for the last few weeks.
