Putin was unsuccessful in getting trump elected again. If he succeeded, he would have been handed Ukraine on a silver platter by trump.

He had control years ago when Manafort installed Russian operatives in all levels of Ukraine govt.. Which is why NATO would not accept Ukraine.

They purged Putin over time, but then trump arose. Putin really thought he had Ukraine in his back pocket.
