As I said, "maybe after he has served some time, paid his debt..." But heck, you "hear" whatever you think is negative about me in whatever I post.

At this moment, he has no credibility. Give it time, he'll gain it. First he needs to be "scared straight" before he can try to apply it to others.

I heard you clearly brother, and I did not, or do not, think anything negative about you .. maybe your judgement :) .. but I like you.

Look, I know how the game is played.

Vick will do some time, just because .. and he should have known that just because he was the highest paid played in the NFL and he is black, not just his race, but because of his culture, he was going to get special attention .. just because.

He should have known that he was not going to get the free pass that other athletes are given and that any misstep from him would be blown up to gigantic proportions .. just because.

I understand what "mainstream" America wants .. but my interests are in the number of youth that can be helped by what appears to be genuine remorse for his actions. I've listened to him speak and I know that he would be listened to by a great many youth of all races, especially in the south.

I know how the game is played but I really, seriously, honestly don't give a damn about the mainstream. America has become the greatest prison nation on the planet, perhaps in all of human history. Prison is not only the first, but often the only option the mainstream considers even for victimless crimes, which I'm not suggesting Vick's crime was.

But even in Vick's case .. you mean we can't think of a better way than locking people up and hoping for a long prison sentence? What about the young people in this country? If you suggest that Vick wouldn't be heard TODAY by young people then you don't know what you're talkimg about brother. Seriously, you don't. Vick is not only a celebrity to them now, he'll still be a celebrity when this is over. He's a man who made a serious error in judgement, but when many look at how other athletes and celebrities are treated, why would what the mainstream thinks matter.

Just an FYI in case you forgot, it was a couple of weeks into the Vick dog fighting scandal before I realized Visk was Black. Made no difference to me, I thought he was scuzzy before and after the realization of his skin color.
 
It's stupid and it's racist
millions in Jail, and hundreds of thousands are for casual marijuana use which is less risky to society that beer. NO doubt the #'s are skewed against young blacks.
As if the inate racism remaining were not enough.
We can and should do better.

Maybe not to you, I don't doubt that, but if you suggest that his race played no part in this, then I disagree.
 
I keep bringing up horse racing cause it's an upper crusty mostly white guys sport.
They shot/kill wounded racehorses all the time. No jail time.

I just have trouble believeing that 6 mos or so in jail and fines will fix the character flaw in Vick....He will still be scuzzy after "paying his price to society".

They set all manner of traps that impale animals they aren't going to eat , just killed it for pleasure ..

Have TV programs that show hunters all dressed in battle gear with high-powered weapons ready to blow the head of Bambi.

If there is a God, she/he knew what they were doing when they didn't put Americans in Africa because the only place you'd find a live lion, zebra, giraffe, or great ape is in the zoo.

Buffalo, hell we shot them just because they were too dumb to get out of the way .. while the native people starved .. who had co-existed with buffalo for centuries.

Dogs? .. Shit we fry bunches of them everyday.

None of this is to condone dog fighting, but how about a bit of perspective
 
I see it as a vick personality flaw to cause him to indulge in behaviour that most people consider to be sadistically cruel.

You come to this conclusion based on what?

You know Micheal Vick?

He had no prior criminal record at all.

He was involved in lots of community activity even before he became a pro.

What draws you to the conclusion that after losing a 130 million dollar contract and millions more in endorsements and his status as an athlete that a man who had no prior criminal record and had been active in his communtiy, especially with kids .. SO MUCH SO that he got an award from the Afterschool Alliance for his foundation's funding and support for alternative programs for youths outside of the classroom, and was supposed to lobby Congress to increase funding for afterschool programs before he missed his flight .. that he's simply "scuzzy?"

What makes you believe that this man is "scuzzy" and unremorseful?

I think melting innocent Iraqi children is sadistically cruel.

I think blowing the head off Bambi with a high-powered rifle is sadistically cruel.

Chasing foxes with dogs .. have you ever seen what happens to the fox when the dogs catch it?

Just as everyone has different perspectives about the life and worth of a fox, a cow, or a moose, there is also different perspectives about the value of a dog.

I have had dogs all my life and life would not be complete without one. The Bouvier I have now saved my life .. literally .. as in I would not be here, not be alive if my dog hadn't saved me. (I know BB is thinking, "damn dog")

Yet, often when I go walking him, I put on my Vick jersey. Tupac is already big, bold, beautiful, and can't be ignored because he looks like a bear.. so when many see him, then focus on the Vick jersey, they get perplexed. How can I have this beautiful dog yet still support Vick?
