WB: Thoughts on SMU over 'Bama?

While not technically electoral politics, this involves politics because college football is American culture and with all the politicking regarding both the gov'ts role in N.I.L. and the regulation of the NCAA (and the politicking of the coaches over who should be in or out).

I've seen some mixed reaction from 'Bama fans. What are your feelings?

Wow, a new way to justify putting sportsball call-outs in the Current Events Forum, a political forum for current news events.

Awesome!

Who's gonna win the Super Bowl? I think one of the coaches in the NFL likes Trump, so...

They shouldn't have allowed themselves to be skull drugged down at Norman and because they were they have nothing to say. Tough call but there is always going to be a bubble with the last team in and first one out.

I felt worse for FSU last year

How about the Philly Eagles, eh?

Well, it's "political" because...because .... checks notes .... the Declaration of Independence was signed there.

Take that, you Commies!

FSU did get hosed. And while I definitely buy the "'Bama has the highest upside" argument you are correct, they were better than Vandy and OU as well.

I do miss Grind.

Don't use current events as your personal soapbox. Too many users use this forum as a catchall space to call out posters. That type of activity should be in either off topic or war zone. Threads of this nature are always insta-closed, and if it becomes a repeat type of thing, could result in small bitch slap bans to get your head right.

SMU is now doing what they suffered the death penalty for

Tough one, can see arguments both ways, but loses to Vandy and Oklahoma are tough to justify a three loss team

SEC isn’t what it has been the last few years, many of its members aren’t the same, and playing each other, which they do, gives a distorted view. Georgia Tech took Georgia into eight overtime’s and GT finished 7-5

Texas AM only measurable game against nonSEC teams was ND where they got beat, so, I’d wager your mediocre USC team to win or at least cover and the line isn’t even out yet

In other words “copy and paste” is out of his element, can’t find many tweets, GIFs, nor memes incorporating college football and MAGA to copy and post

Haha. We lived in Dallas when I was a kid and my father was teaching at SMU during the early Pony Express years so I have some vague memories of them.

With SMU now in a major conference, the amount of talent in DFW and their elite NIL game there's no reason they can't compete at a high level going forward.

Think so, Anchovies?

Have you shared this opinion with Cartoon Ken, Anchovies?

With the number of kids who either opt out or enter the transfer portal, many of these teams are just shells of their regular season self come (non playoff) bowl game time.

So it's really hard to look at the regular season results and try to extrapolate how 'SC and A&M will fare against each other in Vegas.

They should have never lost to us. Were bad…so bad. I think that’s what ultimately cost them.

No doubt. Not just losing, but losing by 21.

You keep hearing the argument that Alabama would beat SMU if they played. And while Alabama would have likely been favored, Alabama was also favored against Vandy and OU and didn't win. So that argument doesn't hold a lot of weight.

Trying to give something to raise your hopes, but you had to go and get get all cynical

True, $$$$$$ have changed the whole game, gotten so non playoff bowl games are comparable to college basketball’s NIT tournament except in football kids stand a better chance of getting hurt which discourages top players.

Always said NIL with transfer revisions would change college football but never envisioned how fast

It's a different game than what we grew up with. But you'll get people defending it saying kids are now empowered when before they were taken advantage of.
