Most spouses would be adamantly against their wife/husband running for POTUS or any other high national office in these days. Once upon a time our Founders envisioned regular working-class/farmer/educated men (but not women of course) holding high offices in this country. They would come from among the regular people, rather than from royalty or the wealthy elite. That's why they set the salaries so low.

We really fucked this whole America thing up badly, didn't we?
