What is the purpose of government?

Government, at least at the politician level should be a dangerous job. Your very life and livelihood should be on the line and The People should hold the power to take both if you screw things up badly enough.

yes.

govt is not capable of making people good.

it can punish people for being bad (breaking laws) and this sometimes provides deterrent to being bad but it does not make people good.

What are laws for? Utilitarians and libertarians can never explain the purpose of government. They think social relations are just for self benefit.

Who decides what is right and wrong?

People. They've been working this out for tens of thousands of years. Then they started codifying it, a good example of that is Common Law.

I'm a Christian so I believe all this came from God but not everyone is so I'll generally be ok with Common Law.

Thanks for that. You believe God orders society.

laws c;arify the bounds of right and wrong and, as needed, offer the penalty for violation.

not sure what you're talking about in the last sentence but it sounds like rights. Protecting individual rights is just part of law and order.

Well stated, IMO.

Government derives from the consent of the governed.

When government does not derive from the consent of the governed, the people flee or, they revolt.

So, utilitarian. But you believe in God. So either you think God orders things or you are utilitarian. Can't be both.

not what I said. God makes it clear what he would like for we humans to be. if a preponderance of citizens are christian then its only natural that society will reflect this.

God does not care about govt, society or anything other than people. and he does that individually.

Super interesting. Learned that in Sunday School when I was 11 years old.

so why do you pretend otherwise in your posts ?

could it be because you are unable to obtain the conclusion you want from the facts ?

lets save some time.

government is NOT intended to be the driving force creating society. any time that shit was tried, it faied.
