What is the purpose of government?

Aristotle said “the object of a state is the good life” (Politics;1280b39).

If the purpose of government is not to make people good, then what is it?
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

More evidence of your severe lack of an education and intelligence. Government cannot make people good. It cannot improve your life. It cannot provide for you.

Government, as ours is perfectly set up to do, can only protect you, and rather poorly at the moment, protect our borders, protect patents and trademarks and administer our laws. The best thing any Government can do is get out of the way and allow the free market to thrive.

The purpose of any constitution is to define and declare a government.
The structure of the federal government is defined by the Constitution of the United States.
The structure of any State government is defined by the Constitution of that State.
The structure of a city government is defined by the Constitution of that city (often called a 'city charter' or some similar name).

Government by constitution is called a republic.

Yes, that could be by a dictatorship, by a republic, or even by a democracy. They ARE all forms of government.

The purpose doesn't change regardless whether there is a king, a constitution, or just a popular vote of the people (democracy).

If law has no order (such as a dictator that is constantly changing what the law IS arbitrarily), then government breaks down. Sooner or later, that king is deposed.
