What Taxing the Rich Could Yield

No one is stopping anyone else from giving their money to whomever you choose. But you won't do it. You want someone else to. That's the embarrassing facts of the matter.

Fine.

Don't drive on the roads anymore - paid by taxpayers.

Don't use the sewer system - shit in an outhouse.

Don't even THINK of eating any food from a store or supermarket - that shit's inspected by the USDA and FDA.

Don't call the cops when you're in trouble, and don't call the fire department when your house is ablaze.

Don't go to any national park, don't go to any state park, don't go to any city park, don't go to any public park.

Don't fly.

Don't buy any imported products.

Don't you dare take Medicare or Social Security.

Walk the walk, Heff.

1. If laws are broken, then prosecute the lawbreakers.
2. So some inherit wealth. Again, how does that negatively impact those who did not?

Knew you could not understand simple ideas. Money =power. The rich and not just gathering money, but power. They impact our politics and our lives. If you paid any attention at all, you would note that we are becoming an oligopoly. The power and wealth are getting more and more concentrated in the hands of the few. That harms the entire concept of America, It is anathema to who were supposed to be. You idiots voted in a "billionaire" to run the country and he has increased the welath gap considerably. You gave the ultimate power to the kleptocrats. And you do not know better.

Get rich and give all your money to the government. Why ask others to do it, when you yourself won't, LV?

Straw man!

Conservatives would rather erect straw men than deal with the reality that their tax cutting, trickle-down schemes didn't work.

Since we as consumers can vote with our wallets why do so many people continue to shop on Amazon or use Facebook? If we want less wealth among the top people why do we continue to support the businesses of the wealthiest?

It's physically impossible for you to admit you're wrong about your governing economic ideology.

If you were to admit that, it would cast a shadow over everything else you say, think, and believe because you've staked all of that on your personal judgment, character, and instincts.

It's too scary for you to confront the reality that you're not half as clever, smart, or informed as you think.

It's fine because at the end of the day, you're the one who has to live with your own guilty conscience. I just hope it doesn't manifest itself in another MAGAt-inspired terror attack like #TreeofLife or #Parkland or #Vegas or....

Why does it have to be either/or with you?

Why can't we have responsible businesses that conduct their business in a moral or ethical way?

Because...say it with me...capitalism has no ethics.

That's why we need government.

You claim to want to help people so much, but don't. You'd rather others do it. That's the cognitive dissonance you guys have to deal with.

The wealth gap increased under the Obama as well. Most of the wealthiest are libs and I don't see you complaining about them. Take George Soros for example, one of the most evil people in the world and a generous donor to liberal and Democrat causes.

A few things:

1. Back before Reagan, the tax burden was far more equitable and the middle and lower classes paid a larger share of the burden. But then you morons cut taxes, which resulted in people suddenly not paying any taxes, and the burden becoming less equitable.

2. While they pay 55% of the income taxes, the amount they pay is half of what it was before Reagan. So you are trying to lead people to a false conclusion by pretending that because they pay a larger share (completely your fault, by the way, for cutting taxes in the first place), that it's somehow unfair, but the part you leave out is that the amount they pay is about half of what they used to since their rate is about half of what it was in 1980.

3. When you make lazy, bullshit arguments like this, be aware of your flank because they're so easily smacked down, and the problem is put right back on you.

4. If you're crying crocodile tears over the burden the wealthy pay while ignoring the fact that their rate is basically half of what it used to be, then you're a duplicitous, lying piece of shit who deserves no respect. Ever.

Full stop.

Again, your reading comprehension is poor and you make assumptions that are not true. I never suggested their tax burden. In fact, I made the point that they pay the greatest amount of taxes because they have more income--exactly the way progressive taxation is supposed to work. I never suggested it was unfair--only that the myth that they do not pay their "fair" share of taxes.

My numbers were incorrect. The 55% was the share of the top 10% for all federal taxes (including payroll). If we just look at individual income taxes the top 10% pay 74.7%. In 1979 they paid 48.3%. So, they pay a much large share than they did in 1980, not less.

They pay much more because the Bush-Obama tax cuts virtually eliminated federal income taxes for the bottom 40%--so naturally those with higher incomes paid more.

If you are referring to the tax rate rather than the share of all federal income taxes, you are still wrong. You are referring to the (very high) marginal tax rate. But that is not what they actually paid (effective tax rate).

In 1979 the effective tax rate for the top 1% was 22.6%. By 2014 the effective tax rate for the top 1% was 24%. So the rich pay a higher tax rate and a higher percentage of total taxes than they did in 1979.

You are the one being misleading, not me. Especially your statement that "...but the part you leave out is that the amount they pay is about half of what they used to since their rate is about half of what it was in 1980." They pay a higher income tax rate.

Data is IRS

Now within the context of this debate, you end up looking like a shameful asshole who made a straw man argument, and is now trying to shift the goalposts so the straw man is in the end zone.

You're worthless.

Within the context of this debate you proved my straw man is real. You claimed "many cheat" which proves the point. Liberals think (many) people who are wealthy cheated to gain their wealth.

Give it a fucking break, Flash. Stop being such a sucker.

Why not answer that question I asked up above?

I'd really be interested in a few of you American conservative geniuses answering. What would it take?

Because that is a silly question. The issue is not how much inequality is too much but how it occurred. For those claiming government is "giving" the wealthy more money or suggesting they are taking it away from others are missing the boat. Most of them somehow want to deprive others of their wealth by taking it away and redistributing it to others. A poor policy.

Probably very few business owners. Hell, I imagine personal responsibility itself is a no-no among those who demand the wealthy pay more taxes.

I agree. It just so happens that the ones that keep bringing it up on here are proud to say they are progressive or liberal.
