Agreed. He's confusing the fact that I enlisted/took the oath in the Marine Corps as a PLC(A) when a Freshman in college. I completed two 6-week Quantico training sessions over two summers as a "candidate" (Officer boot camp), no rank but paid as an E-5. As a starving college student, I needed the money too.
Upon graduation I was commissioned with my father pinning on my bars. Two months later I was at The Basic School (TBS), Alpha Co. 1-79, also at Quantico but a much better facility. Except for the Boat Schoolers, all of us were active-duty Reservists. For aviation personnel, the contract was 7 years. For non-aviation, it was 4 years.
