White Gun Nut Shoots to Death 60 and Wounds 411 in 10 Minute Attack

Matters little, Americans have become desensitized to gun violence in America, it’s become as American as apple pie, if four and five year old kids getting massacred by a guy with a semiautomatic weapon in a school didn’t result in meaningful measures nothing will

yes. just accept it.

Primarily used in fertilizer, when mixed with other substances the chemical becomes highly explosive,

That's true of many chemicals. Use of ammonium nitrate as the oxidizer of a bomb does have some problems. It can self ignite in some mixes.
There are two basic kinds of explosives. High explosives and low explosives. High explosives create a detonation wave that exceeds the speed of sound, and detonate without burning. Low explosives create a detonation wave the does not exceed the speed of sound, and are typically conflagration type materials (such as black powder). Some oxidizers are safer than others. Some oxidizers are very sensitive to friction, impact, or thermal or electrical energy in and of themselves. Pyrotechnicians know how to handle these materials safely, and void using much of it.

One of the most dangerous chemicals is chlorine dioxide, typically used in the bleaching stage of a pulp and paper plant. This chemical is so dangerous it cannot be shipped. You can ship weapons grade nuclear material, you cannot ship chlorine dioxide. If it drifts out into the sunlight, it will go off.
Pulp plants have to make this stuff on site. They have a reaction tower used for just this purpose. It's built nice and beefy so it can take the inevitable explosion when (not if) it happens. I've walked by one of these towers when an explosion in it occurred. It scares the shit out of ya. In a pulp plant, they call that a 'burp'. The operator of that reaction tower is just used to it.

the new legislation will require anyone buying more than 25 pounds to register, be screened against a known terrorist list, and require any thefts to be reported within 24 hours.

It is proposed from time to time. It is not law, and probably never will be.

This new legislation expands upon a chemical anti-terrorism bill already in effect, but it's the first law to target ammonium nitrate sales specifically.
A bill is not law. The federal government has no authority in this area.

Sounds like you had a BLAST! :)

I usually do. :D I also find it's an excellent way of dealing with moles (a specific type of bomb, using propane and oxygen).

Correct. Theft is already a crime. That doesn't stop people from stealing.

True. Me and my gun can do that though.

Timothy McVeigh, used an ANFO bomb in his truck. It was an act of war, in revenge for the federal government murdering people in Texas because of violating so-called gun law (which themselves are unconstitutional) and religious persecution. This bomb used ammonium nitrate and No. 2 fuel oil. This is also used by some farmers to break up ground for post holes. By itself the material is very insensitive. You can treat it quite roughly. The biggest problem is that it is hygroscopic, rendering the material useless. Like any high explosive, you have to use a low explosive to cause it to detonate. McVeigh used an M80 firecracker (flash powder, similar to black powder), as the detonator. The fusing device for the firecracker is unknown. It could have been nothing more than a simple Visco type fuse cut to a five minute length or so. It was not an act of terrorism, but an act of revenge.

He could have used most any oxidizer for the bomb. Ammonium nitrate is simply what was convenient. It wasn't even the best choice, chemically speaking.

ignore facts, much?
Nah. That would be you.
about a 1000 rounds were fired and you are trying to nitpick 100's of rounds.
Nope. YOU are trying to nit pick. Inversion fallacy.
learn to add, bitch.
Already know, thanks.
60 shot to death and 411 shot and injured. that is a total of 471. the total of people injured was 867. Using math, we see 471 shot and 396 trampled. dumbass. liar. they were fish in a barrel, punk ass.
Nope no barrels were involved, I assure you.
and, yeah, stupid fuck, it took an assault weapon, in fact, several, to shoot so many so quickly with such lethal effect, not a fucking conventional firearm.
There is no such thing as an 'assault weapon'. Buzzword fallacy. The AR-15 design is a semiautomatic conventional firearm. It shoots conventional ammunition (typically chambered for .223 ammunition, using a bullet that the same as a .22). This design is flexible for many applications, rugged, dependable, and is easily town down for cleaning and maintenance. A fine design.
Most folks around here use them for hunting or defense of their ranches and farms.

Define 'quickly'. Revolvers can shoot pretty damn quickly, after all.

Bump shooting is hard on a gun. None of them were able to last much more than ten rounds before jamming. He just picked up the next gun and started shooting with that.
even without a bump stock,
Any semiautomatic can be bump fired. You don't need a special stock. Sometimes a fat beer gut is sufficient.
the asshole could have shot about a third as many and you act like that would be no big deal?
The Las Vegas massacre was a big deal. Fortunately, the shooter killed himself. Mandalay Bay casino and MGM was also responsible for allowing this to happen. They have been sued by the survivors (justly so). It was settled out of court.
THAT IS WHY THEY NEED TO BE BANNED, YOU STUPID FUCK.
Unconstitutional.
JUST LIKE HOWITZERS
Howitzers are legal. I know of a few people that own and fire them. One fellow uses his to shoot down avalanches in the area before they get big enough to threaten people.
AND SHOULDER FIRED GROUND TO AIR MISSILES.
Those are legal to own and fire as well. I personally know of a couple people that build their own versions of these as well.
Flamethrowers are currently a more popular hobby.

Who knows why he did it.

There ya go, tell everybody :palm:

The motive is completely unknown.

It could've been a suicide, taking as many with him as he could.
It could've been some kind of repetitive depressive manic episode induced by some unknown drug effect or after effect.
It could be an innate hatred of rock concerts.

It was planned for a long time. It took time and effort to amass the weapons, and the ammunition, learning the skill of bump firing, studying holes in Mandalay Bay and MGM security, getting everything into the hotel room, picking the venue, etc.

Preparation is one thing, when it comes time to pull the trigger, it's another ballgame altogether. He aimed for the middle of a crowd. If he took time to aim, he would not have fired as many rounds or used a bumpstock.
