White libs - will HARVARD & YALE be free for everyone if Bernard wins 2020???

Right now, you can go to community college for reduced tuition. I would hope you would seriously consider doing so. It is never to late to improve yourself. Most community colleges will accept anyone. If you do well there, you can transfer to a four year college.

There are people in America who are illiterate adults, and are able to turn their lives around and become doctors. It is a miracle of second chances in America. I am not saying you are that bad, or can do that well, but you can improve yourself.
I'm so glad to see this interest from you in higher education opportunities for others....are you an educator? If so, at what level?

Yes! I have changed my vote! I now support Bernie and free college!
I am coming back out of retirement (seems many are doing that these days), going back to school on the government, get my Masters in Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy, selling my house and moving to Florida and get a part time job working for NASA. Go Bernie!!

Joke all you want, but my mom is taking courses at community college. She already has a PHD, but wanted to keep getting educated.

I am not currently an educator. I did work as an instructor and teaching assistant to help pay for my master's degree. I taught undergraduate engineering courses.

I'm not joking. I'd seriously consider it. Maybe not the moving to Florida, though. I like it here and have many friends. There are also some good employment opportunities.

Awesome....community college or university?

Did you enjoy teaching? Would you ever return the classroom...

I enjoyed teaching. I am thinking about setting up a Youtube channel to do some teaching outside of schools. If I really had wanted to teach at a university, I would have stuck with it and gotten a PHD. But, I could still get a PHD. I could teach at a lower level with just a master's degree, but that would require a massive reduction in pay. Even being a professor at a university would require a reduction in pay. Maybe teaching is something I could do in retirement.

A surprising number of people teach at community college in retirement.

Thanks for the reply...most people don't go into teaching for the pay...

Which is all the sadder. In Finland, teaching (even primary and secondary school teaching) pays great. They get great teachers because of the great pay. And even by European standards, they have some of the best schools in the world. We keep hearing about lowering the standards for teaching to try to get teachers, while other countries are making teaching a profession that highly qualified people compete to get into.

Standards for teaching are higher than ever here... You get Great teachers when people want to teach...
You taught to pay off your loans...$$$ doesn't buy everything....

America is a nation of second chances, third chances, and billionth chances. The Alt Right is trying to change that. It would destroy one of the things that makes America great.

Those chances aren't the responsibility of someone else to fund.

One of the things that made America great was the concept of personal responsibility. Expecting someone else to pay for your billionth chance isn't putting that into practice.

He never brought that part up once. You can go back to what he said without segregation.

Convenient he left that out right? At the time they massively underfunded minority schools. And at the time you didn’t have the large number of students who aren’t English first students like we do today. Those are all additional revenue that must be raised to address. Nor does it address women teachers and the reality of the time like I said were the many of the best and brightest women taught because they were denied job opportunities elsewhere. So it’s not as easy as saying just go back and do things like we did 60+ years ago. (Or am I race baiting by bringing these facts up?)

(This is for another discussion but notice the teacher unions didn’t have nearly the power they have today when our schools were the best?)

How will this free college for all work? Colleges are already full. Will Bernard build a shitload of new colleges to hold the impending tsunami of Free students?

Will Bernard make Harvard and Yale FREE for everyone? :dunno:

Stupid fuck, Sanders' bill is for PUBLIC colleges and universities only.

No need to be concerned for your family and friends, Appalachia. One has to have more than an 8th grade education to qualify for Harvard and Yale.

:rofl2:

Will colleges be allowed to not admit an applicant? It's a right, isn't it? Can I demand free college as a 53 year old? I've paid taxes for almost 40 years (Meet the 15 year old dishwasher extraordinaire )?

Sanders' bill has nothing to do with admission standards, idiot.

Oh no, hundreds of thousands of intelligent, hard working students will be able to go to college. What horrors??? How will America tolerate such a terrible thing happening?

Seriously, we have done it before, we are doing it now, and hopefully we will do it in the future. By making education accessible to any student who qualifies, not just to the rich, America has become a country where people can move up in class. People of middle class backgrounds, like Bloomberg, can become billionaires. This is a good thing.

It might displace people like the trumps who have a lot of money, but very little educational drive.

Nice strawman there.
