Why Don't People Like To Talk About Politics?

Hello cawacko,

It shouldn't be an obsession either way.

Politics should not be the first thing people start talking about, and neither should it be off limits due to some outdated and incorrect 'social more.' (I put that in quotes because I am using the word 'more' in the social custom context)

I've been to plenty of functions where politics has been discussed. I don't think that's the issue. I think what you're getting at is you want more people to agree with what you believe (hence the multi postings of the anti-corruption video) and you're "blaming" people not discussing politics enough for why what you want to see happen hasn't.

For much of my life I was not very well informed. I shied away from political discussions simply because I didn't know much about what was going on and I didn't want to display my ignorance. And I wasn't very interested in politics. It all seemed out of my control. I was born in the USA, and everything went on seemingly just fine without my input. Even though I was a paper boy, I never read the news I delivered. I became an adult and never took much of an interest in politics.

I felt like a dummy whenever political discussions arose. I didn't watch the news and didn't care much. It all seemed like a waste of time. It seemed like it didn't matter if I cared or not. Powerful forces controlled the nation and my input had no apparent impact. I always did vote, though, simply because it was logical that we should. The nation depends on people at least voting. I wasn't very well informed, so I just voted based on what little I knew from talking to people.

Over the years that began to nag at me. I wanted to be better informed to make sure my votes were well considered. I subscribed to a newspaper and began to read up. I was amazed at everything going on. I began to watch the news and listen to radio talk shows. I wanted to talk about all I was learning but ran smack into a brick wall.

People don't want to talk about politics!

If you force it on them, many become agitated and even angry.

I never understood that. And sometimes even I would become angered by things other people would say. What was THAT all about? I didn't understand what was going on. I needed more information. And I needed to talk about politics. I just knew I didn't like the getting angry part.

That was when I began to chat online.

Well, talk about people getting angry!

Chatting online is where people go who want to blow off their steam without getting into physical fights in person.

But I don't like that. I don't see any point in venting pent up frustrations that way. It's like a sick loop. Vent, feel better, get worked back up again, vent, feel better, repeat. Over and over. That seemed ridiculous. All I wanted to do was get better informed so I felt better about what I was voting for.

Now I think I understand.

I know why people don't want to talk about politics. They are like I was. They don't really feel well informed, are somewhat embarrassed to admit it, so they derail such discussions by getting angry and mean. Either that, or they have become hopelessly misinformed, taken in by conspiracy theories, they blame certain groups for the problems of the nation, and they vent their frustrations by attacking people whom they perceive to be representative of the demonized bad people they blame for the nation's problems.

What is really going on is powerful interests exert outsized control over our nation, people are helpless to change it, and they are frustrated that they have no control over what happens to them. They are looking for someone or some group to blame for this preposterous power usurpation, and the conspiracy theories attempt to fill that void.

The right and the left blame each other for the lack of more prosperity in the most prosperous large nation on Earth, but really it is the very rich power junkies who control most of our government.

Basically, people shy away from talking about politics real life in person because they are frustrated and angry, and they don't want to lose their cool.

That's a problem. If people don't talk about politics they remain uninformed.

If everybody got well informed it would transform our nation. The very rich power junkies would not be able to control most of our government. Government would begin to serve the people as intended. That is the one thing the very rich power junkies who control most of our government don't want. They LIKE the control they have and they LIKE being very rich and they don't want anything which might cause their power to slip away. They don't want everybody else to become as rich as they are because if that happens they are no longer special. So they spend money to keep the populace mixed up and poorly informed. They spend money on PR campaigns to spread misinformation and propaganda.

And it works.

People are all mixed up, not very well informed, and they don't want to talk about politics.

The reason is because they feel helpless, like they have no control, and it won't matter if they know more about what's going on but it will only make them feel more helpless.

Fortunately there is now an answer to this frustration. The corruption of our government is about to be drawn to an end. And that is wonderful news. It won't happen overnight because the way to return control to the people is going to be a long process. But the exciting thing to know is that process has already begun. Smart people have figured out how to fix our legalized corruption problem.

Here is what's going on:

Here's the website with all the answers:

RepresentUS.com

There, you'll find many more short videos and resources which explain exactly how we are going to get the corruption out of government. The good news is it can be done, and it is already happening. And you can help out. Check out the short video, the link, and learn how we are going to build a better America using the best the left and the right.

Then SMILE! Our country is going to get better!

That is really cool to know. And it's also cool to know we don't have to get angry when talking about it.

:)

Could it be "the reason people don't like to talk about politics".....is because of the fascist shitless type of screening used by those that don't actually want to have a discussion but simply want to talk to hear their own heads rattle? Why open a topic and then ban everyone except those you seek accolade from? LMAO

This is like asking the question....WHY IS WATER WET when all you do is stand on the bank shouting at the water. SNOWFLAKES...….:palm:

The real question? Is anyone "worth" talking to if they fear they can't defend or articulate their own arguments? I say.....from the prima facie evidence of ignoring the 1st amendment rights of others to speak....one can smell a fascist void of the need to communicate.

I don't have to be concerned about that. Most people already agree our government is corrupt. They just think it's hopeless. I can't blame them. I used to think the same thing. Now I see that it is not at all hopeless, that it is being turned around as we speak, and the actual case is it is simply going to take time. How much time depends on how many people look at the solution with an open mind.

Absolutely I agree that more people need to make the same realization that I have. Like most people I want the corruption out of government. Even Trump voters thought they were voting for that, all chanting with Trump's ruse of claiming he was going to drain the swamp. It's just sad they refuse to hold him to task on that.

would you seek to reverse the citizens united decision, which allows basically unlimited corporate contributions to candidates running for office?

We have government on the local, state and national level. Our local government has just as much control over our day to day lives as the federal government in many senses. So what you're discussing is far bigger than "Trump voters".

Totally agree, as do most Republicans, Democrats and Independents.

I just did. You always resort to sperging out and name-calling.

You made a claim. For you to be able to prove it, the claim would have to be true. Since it's not, you figure out what that means about my posts.

If someone that is an idiot is called an idiot, that isn't name calling. For it to be name calling, it has to be abusive and demeaning. Identifying someone as what they are is quite different from name calling.

he's saying he revels in accuracy, dipshit.

Stating a fact isn't name calling. For it to be name calling, it has to be abusive and demeaning. If identifying facts is considered abusive and demeaning by the one being identified, the problem is what that person not the one stating facts.

totally. if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, its probably an idiot.

Since when is stating facts and identifying what someone is rude and considered name calling?

Because you're not just identifying what someone is. You just insult people you disagree with. You also assume things about people and then refuse to accept when you're wrong.

Again, when it's true, it not name calling nor an insult.

If someone is identified as an idiot, it's because they've proven they're one. Considering it an insult only further proves the identification is correct.

You gave a perfect example of why it is tough to talk politics. Name-calling ,insults and saying those with different opinions have to be wrong. And wrong because of intellectual or character flaws.
Poisoning the well and pissing people off is not how a decent discussion can be achieved.

would you seek to reverse the citizens united decision, which allows basically unlimited corporate contributions to candidates running for office?

More. Public financing of elections with no outside money. The corruption was there before the horrible Citizen United case.

Again, when it's true, it not name calling nor an insult.

If someone is identified as an idiot, it's because they've proven they're one. Considering it an insult only further proves the identification is correct.

Alright, if you want to consider someone an idiot and be rude to them, just because they disagree with you, then that's your business.

All I can say is that I've had huge disagreements with PoliTalker and ThatOwlWoman, but they haven't blocked me, and I consider them pretty smart. Too bad the Trumpsters here aren't as intelligent and tolerant.
