Wow...

Damo is a big boy. He can speak for himself. And I just find it exceedingly difficult to believe that Damo watched this particular edition of Inside Washington, a show on PBS that practically no one watches, and specifically remembers that an employee of NPR said something about wishing Jesse Helms and his grandchildren got AIDS and it just so happens, coincidences of coincidences, that a clip of surfaced on the web a very short while ago.

And given Damo's past regarding conveniently "remembering" certain very specific things like GHWB being blamed by Peter Jennings for the Exxon Valdez that just so happened to appear on Glenn Beck's website, the skepticism is well warranted.

Juan was advised about this shit a while ago when he called Michele Obama "Stokley Carmichael in a dress." He kept on doing it. At some point they had to draw the line. And given what Juan has said about all this, he seems relieved.

Fargle Bargle.
You don't think there were other stories at that time about it? You are incredible.

Again, it matters not what I remember or not, but this is just become sad.

HERE'S a thought.

When Williams was hired, the terms of his employment included an Ethics Code. It is Juan Williams PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY to read, understand and adhere to that code. If Williams violated that code, then his termination it is HIS fault.

Or maybe you can just continue the victim-hood argument...

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/vi...r_fired_him_for_making_bigoted_statement.html

Sorry, but this is quite ridiculous. He was fired for sharing his feelings on this? He stated that we have to be careful not to be bigoted, but he had to be honest that he did a double take when in airports when he saw people in Muslim garb as it made him nervous.

If we can't have honest discussions about how things make us feel, then we have NO chance to resolve differences.

One more reason NPR should lose all federal funding. They are too ignorant to exist.
I don't agree with losing their funding, but I do agree that they got a little carried away.

ROFLMAO..... what ETHICAL violation did he break?

That's an interesting question.

I feel that the public funding is a red herring. I thought NIgel did a great job on the other thread about this, in laying out just how little of their funding comes from federal grants. I feel that the right uses that red herring as an excuse to cover their own hypocrisy for cheering when Helen Thomas was fired.

I personally would not have fired either one of them.

I do wonder how many people, assuming you either fly and/or use mass transit in a major US city, have never once, since 9/11, been on a plane, or in a subway car with a young male of apparent Arab-descent, wearing a backpack or carrying a bag, had an unpleasant thought or two.

I will admit that I have.
I get nervous when young men with shaven heads and sleeveless shirts walk down the street near me, also. I also go on high alert when any group of men are walking in the same locale as myself, or when a guy approaches me in a parking lot. We are just baser animals and go on alert when things are different or threatening, because of 9/11 we are aware and on guard. It is sad, but it is the flight or fight response that is baser to us.

Houston was fabulous! I ate, drank and was very merry!

This sounds very PC! Seriously though, the Park51/Mosque project is something that is completely based in bigotry and plenty of hate. It's interesting that Lazio tried to work that you know? But who can out-hate a teabagger? So now we have Palidino, and even though polls were showing that even a majority of NY state residents were against the project, I guess they forgot to ask how important it was to them? Because Palido is sinking so badly that the NY Gop now fears he is going to be a drag on tickets state-wide. :clink:
Oh, dear how awful, (snicker)

And since Juan was hired over 10 years ago, and has repeatedly given commentary on Fox through most of that period, NPR's acceptance of this supposed "breach" waives their right to fire him on those grounds. Had NPR given Williams a written warning on the first instance, and terminated him for the second (repeat) violation, they would be within their rights. But that isn't what happened here. The fact that they allowed him to continue giving his commentary for years, without action, nullifies any such provision they originally made. They accepted the behavior, until now. Sorry, but you just can't legally do that.

Why is it anytime I am on the same thread as Onceler, Republicans address us as one person?

Why do Republican men always seem to believe that I am afraid of them?

Why are Republican men always beating their chests and swinging from threads?

And what exactly is it I was supposed to address here Bravo?
His inferiority complex, I believe...

You know...TCLIBERAL is right...sometimes the chronology of the posts does prove something......

AT lease Onceler had the brains not to return after he was PWNED.....

Ohhhhh nooooo not the red!!!!! Now I am really paying attention! or not

I thought the action was somewhat extreme, but what would your reaction be to a statement like this:

"I'm not prejudiced in any way, but being in close proximity to black people makes me really uncomfortable."
Exactly. Howard Cosell was forced to resign for making a similiar and equally stupid comment and no one in their right mind thinks Cosell was a bigot. Was it an extreme move by NPR. Yea I think so. Was it an incredibly stupid thing for Wiliams to say. No doubt about it.

Well yea but on the flip side I've had to get on a plane with some uptight anal retentive types in suits and I wasn't to thrilled about that either.

It was a stupid thing for Williams to say.

The part that is supported by donations and private foundations!

do you know the history of npr? it is government created radio....

hence...."public" radio...just as state schools get both private and public funding...you don't say they are private schools

National Public Radio, Inc. is a not for profit corporation. It is not a government entity. It's more akin to a private university that receives federal funding than a state-owned school that receives private funding.

It was, as a public figure you have to be aware! but I feel he should have been hand slapped and not fired, but he got a better job, lots of money, it has a happy ending!

Why do you pinheaded fucktards always have to run to the race card? There is NOTHING EVEN REMOTELY SIMILAR in comparing your outrageous comment to what Williams said. First of all, he was talking about boarding an airplane, a commercial airline, like the one Muslims used on 9/11 to fly into the WTC buildings and the Pentagon. He didn't say they made him uncomfortable to be in close proximity of Muslims. Had he said THAT, the whole nation would be appalled at his comments, not just NPR and you few fucking idiots.

What he said was an honest sentiment which is shared by millions of others in this country, and he went on to say, that we must find a way to cope with those fears and overcome our tendencies to let that fear cause us to be bigoted and prejudiced. It's really almost like what Shirley Sherrod said about racism. There wasn't a damn thing wrong or bigoted in what he said, and I can't believe the majority of those defending the man, are those who vehemently disagree with his political views the most! That really amazes me!
