The system the US had originally set up for a federal government took into account the individual states and their diverse populations and needs. A simple popular vote system wouldn't do that. It favors just the highest population urban areas and states over everything else.

That hasn't changed today one iota. Maybe the issue isn't slavery now, but there are other issues, plenty of them, where decisions from Washington don't work well or at all for some parts of the US while they do for others. That's the problem with a central government with lots of power and voted in on nothing but a popular vote.

I suspect that the ONLY reason you think it makes sense for the person receiving fewer votes to be elected over someone receiving more votes....is because it favors the party you favor.

I further suspect that if it were favoring the Democrats, you would be one of the most vocal advocates for changing it.

Well, they (Dems) sure are dumb, but it's their anti American policies that have created the downward
spin of our economy, and their utter refusal to stop the ongoing surge of illegals into our country that
is putting our entire nation at risk for another terrorist attack. Not to mention how their foreign policy
or lack thereof with the feckless appeasement of joe bribem has now resulted in both China and Russia
showing their muscle off the shores of Alaska. Thanks to feckless joe we are ever so close to WW111, and
to think that this so-called commander in chief is going to serve out his remaining 5 months in office
is even more exciting for the Iran and it's proxies, and of course for China and Russia to take advantage
of our weakness.

It is not possible to change it without a Constitutional amendment. I doubt the States are going to just give up their authority.
