You raped Bill Clinton's Cousin?

Yeap it really is. This is about political hackery. You know if this case wastn tied to Clinton he would have not given a rats ass about it.

Then again, if you think about it, because Dukakis was stupid enough to trust criminals not to commit crimes on the forlough, Bush I got elected (Bush was trailing in polls before Willie Horton). And because Bush I got elected, Bush II got elected (no other fucking way). So, Dukakis is indirectly a war criminal.

Great job Democrats!

One place where you are wrong BB is that had the Parole board not given him a conditional parole Huckabee was GOING TO COMMUTE the sentence of a serial rapist. Now you want to give all the credit to his lawyer but the Parole board decided this in a close session then met to vote. In most states a meeeting of the parole board with the governor is mandated by the open meetins act of that state to be open to the public or at least recorded. Finally, Huckabee withheld the letters from the victims of this guy and the board never knew about them. If this was a democrat you would be screaming your partisan hack head off. But ONLY because you are a right wing goose stepping moron do you view this as no harm no foul.

How could he even do that?

Commuting a sentence should only be done whenever the punishment was far out of proportion to the crime - that didn't happen in this case. There was no evidence to suggest that they came down on him over-harshly. In many states he'd never see the light of day again. The 50 year sentence - which would let him out once he was either dead or too old to commit any new crime, would've been appropriate. But why commute?

If that columnist thought he was 'innocent', come out with some fucking evidence. And if he really is innocent, you pardon, you don't commute. It's just amazingly stupid.

Democratic Presidential candidate Michael Dukakis was the governor of Massachusetts at the time, and while he did not start the furlough program, he had supported it as a method of criminal rehabilitation. The State inmate furlough program was actually signed into law by Republican Governor Francis W. Sargent in 1972. However, in 1976, Governor Dukakis vetoed a bill that would have made inmates convicted of first-degree murder ineligible for furloughs. The program remained in effect through the intervening term of governor Edward J. King and was abolished during Dukakis's final term of office on April 28, 1988. This abolition only occurred after the Lawrence Eagle Tribune had run 175 stories about the furlough program and won a Pulitzer Prize. Dukakis continued to argue that the program was 99% effective; yet, as the Lawrence Eagle Tribune pointed out, no state outside of Massachusetts, nor any federal program, would grant a furlough to a prisoner serving life without parole, as Horton was.

He did veto the bill that would've made Horton ineligible. I don't know of a single country in the world that lets murders off so early in their sentence, even for a few days.

However, Huckabee's was worse, because it was done for mostly political reasons (Dukakis was being naive), and the man in question went on to commit far more heinous acts.

Yeah Duke did veto a bill . One does have to wonder what the hell else was in the bill.

He did then later abolish the law.

I agree that Hucks was worse. He was told by victims the guy was a monster and still helped him get out. The right wanted to believe this asshole was an innocent man because they hated Clinton so much.

Nope.............

If he were a democrat I would have posted the same response...and the board was aware of the letters...Hukabee even wrote one himself to the Perp through his attorney to the board...he denied commuting the sentence some 3-4 times...but said he was willing to support a parole if the board so chose...he would not have nor did he ever say he would commute or pardon the perp!
For the record darla started this off as a lynch mob mentality...accusing Christians of pressuring Hackabee to punish the victims because they hated Clinton...now if this is not political Hackery I really don't know what is!

Bottom line:the blame falls on the parole board...the governor cannot parole anyone...and out of the 7 parole board members only three made the false accusations about Huckabee...these three were not re-appointed by Huckabee for their $75,000. per year job...maybe a little mal -content on their part...I would like to hear what the other 4 board members have to say about the so called meeting and what was really discussed!

Ex-Aide: Huckabee Lying About Role In Rapist’s Release

Directly contradicting Mike Huckabee's claims, his former senior aide tells the Huffington Post that, as governor of Arkansas, Huckabee indeed told the state's parole board that he supported the release of a convicted rapist.

The senior aide, Olan W. "Butch" Reeves, personally attended a controversial parole board meeting with Huckabee in Oct. 1996.

"The clear impression that I came away with from the meeting was that he favored Dumond's release," Reeves said, referring to convicted rapist Wayne Dumond. "And I can understand why board members would believe that to be the case."

This stands in stark contrast to Huckabee's assertion, repeated at a press conference today that he "did not ask [the board] to do anything." When asked directly about trying to influence the board, Huckabee responded: "No. I did not. Let me categorically say that I did not."

But, according to Reeves, Huckabee actually told the parole board members that the prison sentence meted out to Dumond for his rape conviction was "outlandish" and "way out of bounds for his crime." Huckabee believed there "was something nefarious" about the how the state's criminal justice system had treated Dumond, Reeves said.

Reeves's admission comes as a surprise since the interview was encouraged by Huckabee's presidential campaign. Reeves served as chief counsel to then-Gov. Huckabee until 2003, and was subsequently appointed by Huckabee as chairman of the Arkansas Workers' Compensation Commission. Reeves has donated to Huckabee's presidential campaign.

The Huffington Post reported on Tuesday that Huckabee's gubernatorial office had been privately warned by numerous women that Dumond had sexually assaulted them or their family members, and would likely strike again. Huckabee pushed for the rapists release from prison anyway, and Dumond went on to rape and murder at least one other woman.

In a 2002 story I wrote for the Arkansas Times about Huckabee's role in freeing Dumond, four board members -- three of whom spoke on the record -- said that Huckabee lobbied and pressured board members on the matter. This included the 1996 parole meeting at which the board's recording secretary -- who ordinarily tapes the entire sessions -- was asked to leave the room. Several board members and members of the state legislature have said the secret session violated state law.

Huckabee, in turn, has said that all four parole board members have lied about his role in Dumond's release from prison.

So lets see BB old Butch Reeves DIRECTLY contradicts your mal-content comment. Old Butch was a senior aide until 2003 and then appointed after that. THEN he donated to Huckie's campaign. SOOOO it appears that at least one non malcontent verifies the other four malcontent. WONDER why he would do that? And Huckabee was soooooo sure that Butch would validate his earlier LIE that HIS people suggested the interview. Probably should have talked to old Butch first. So now what right wing political hackery will you engage in to try to save the man that might still be the front runner? I actually think that the people who released this so soon should have waited to see if Huckie was going to be the nominee. This will have all blown over by November 08 and IF Huckie is the Nominee he will be able to lie somemore by saying he adressed that issue. BUT none the less in almost no time at all Darla posts a story that SHATTERS BB's attempt to brush this under the rug as just an unfortunate set of circumstances that Huckie had no part in. And I bet the law that several board members and members of the state legislature have said was violated, is the open meetings act.

Well Counselor...........

This is a classical case of He said/She said...I was not present in the meeting nor were you or darla...I based my response on the rule of law...again the Governor has no power to parole anyone...he can commute or pardon...which he did not do!..As for the influencing of the board to realese...this is a nolo-contender no matter who said what to who...if the parole board made the decision to release...then it is their mistake...end of story counselor! You cannot have your cake and eat it too...and for darla she started bashing the Christian Right saying they pressured Huckabee to punish the victim because they hated Clinton...this was my issue with Darla...personally I prefer Duncan Hunter and Tancredo...Romney is coming along so-so...still on the radar!

Two months after taking office, Huckabee stunned the state by saying he questioned DuMond's guilt and that it was his intention to free the rapist, who had been castrated by masked men while awaiting trial. Huckabee said then he had "serious questions as to the legitimacy of his guilt" and acknowledged later that he had met with DuMond's wife about the case while he was lieutenant governor. Two months after ascending to the governor's office, Huckabee met with the woman again.

The ex-governor now blames his predecessor for making DuMond parole eligible _ Jim Guy Tucker commuted a life-plus-20 years sentence to 39 1/2 years _ but distances himself from his role in DuMond's release. Huckabee met privately with the state parole board, and two members have said he pressured them for a vote.

"He made it obvious that he thought DuMond had gotten a raw deal and wanted us to take another look at it," former board member Charles Chastain said in 2001. "Some board members who were usually very tough about letting people out ... (later) voted in favor of him, and seemed eager to."

On his campaign Web site, Huckabee says the parole board was made up entirely of Democrats appointed by Clinton and Tucker. It doesn't mention that Huckabee reappointed board member Railey Steele days before he voted with three other members to set DuMond free. DuMond was later convicted of killing a woman in Missouri and died in 2005.
