The term plutocracy describes the kind of oligarchy in power. Also, strict democracy (mob rule, anarchy, lawlessness, etc) leads to an oligarchy which leads to tyranny. It's the representational republic that thwarts an oligarchy.

An oligarchy has neither size requirements nor size limits, and those in the oligarchy get to determine how, when and how frequently they communicate with whomever.

SCOTUS has made some decisions against the Constitution recently.
For example:
It ruled that a witness can be compelled to testify against himself in violation of the 5th amendment.
It ruled that electoral college members have no freedom to vote, in violation of Article II, the 1st amendment, and the 12th amendment.
It attempted to redefine 'sexual orientation' as 'gender'.
It attempted to assume the duties of the President of the United States and remove authority from the President of the United States (The DACA problem).

To be fair, SCOTUS also ruled following the Constitution (as they are REQUIRED to do anyway!) for several significant cases:
It ruled that the federal government has no jurisdiction to write or create or enforce any abortion law. This reverses the unconstitutional it made earlier (where it added to the Constitution the authority to allow abortions and to usurp State authority doing so).
It ruled that the right to bear arms is the same as it was during the revolutionary war (any weapon, regardless of whether the military used it or not), and that the people have the right of self defense and the right to keep and bear arms. It did NOT remove restrictions on automatics weapons, however, which was an unconstitutional ruling.
It ruled that college admissions offices cannot use racism as a factor in admissions.
