Stanley Reinhold was at his home when he heard an unusual sound.

Reinhold found pieces of broken wood molding on the floor and observed damage to the inside of the window facing east.

While on his deck, he noticed a hole in the screen and window frame, concluded it was a bullet hole, then called 911.

During his emergency call, Reinhold could hear what he described as gunshots in the distance.

Within four minutes of the dispatch, an officer arrived and found a neighbor's guests engaged in shooting rifles and handguns.

Police charged Craig Graham Jacobus, 60.

Jacobus was hosting a party at his home with about 40 guests ranging in age from "infant to elderly."

Guests were using metal can lids and watermelons as shooting targets, the records say.

Police found a number of rounds of shotgun ammunition, a large number of expended casings from a 9mm handgun and a high-powered rifle at Jacobus' home.

From where the targets were located, police could see traffic and school athletic fields.

Jacobus and three others who had been shooting were taken to police headquarters to be interviewed.

The four told police they were shooting an AR (5.56 mm rifle), an AK (97.62X39 rifle), and a Glock (9mm handgun).

The four said they believed they were shooting in a "safe manner".

Jacobus said he has been hosting this type of party for the last 10 years.

The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office has identified Sandy resident Troy Clark Burkinshaw, 52, as the man one of their deputies shot and killed Friday evening after he tried to run the deputy over with his vehicle.

About 8 p.m., the deputy saw Burkinshaw outside his vehicle off Highway 13 urinating, said County Sheriff Lynn Yeates.

The deputy stopped to give the man a warning, but Burkinshaw gave a fake name.

The deputy went back to talk to him when he took off.

The deputy pursued the man until he was able to stop him on a dead-end street.

The deputy got out of his patrol car, and Burkinshaw tried to run the deputy over, Yeates said.

That’s when the deputy shot and killed him.

That they believed they were shooting in a safe manner proves my point.

It does?

How would you address the fact that they'd been doing it for 10 years and believed they were shooting in a safe manner?

Paintball?
