Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said 23-year-old Jonathan Phillips died less than an hour after he was shot around 6:15 p.m. Saturday.
Fowler says a passing motorist saw Phillips run out of a house and collapse. The motorist called 911 and performed CPR.

Jonathan Hoffman was shot several times but managed to call 911, police say.

The shooting was reported to police at 4:21 p.m. on Alonquin Way at Churrituck Drive, in a neighborhood of single-family houses just south of Palm Avenue.
The victim, who died at the scene, was not immediately identified.

Police released few details about the death. The victim, whose name and age were not released, encountered an unknown suspect about 2 a.m. in a parking lot in the 7800 block of Interstate Highway 635.

The Lake County coroner’s office identified the woman as Jacqueline Gardner.
The coroner’s office said her body was found at her residence in the 8000 block of Alpine Lane.
Gardner was taken to Methodist Hospitals Southlake campus in Merrillville and pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m.
Schererville police spokesman Patrol Cmdr. Brian Neyhart said police have questioned people in connection with the shooting, but there have been no arrests.

A man armed with a box cutter attacked two undercover police officers in a car and was shot to death by them, HPD says.
Kevin Bernard Hunter, 51, was killed about 9:15 last night in the 2000 block of Dewalt, near Tidwell and I-45.
Police say the two undercover cops were conducting surveillance in an unmarked car at that location.
"Two males approached their vehicle. One of the males began beating on the vehicle and yelling profanities at the officers," HPD says.
"Hunter then stated he was going to kill the officers and began stabbing and slashing at one of the officers with a box cutter. When the suspect stabbed the officer in the upper left forearm, both officers discharged their weapons and struck the suspect."
He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputies who shot and killed an armed Palm Springs man have been cleared of any wrong doing by the state attorney's office.
Investigators have finished going through the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office findings and said the shooting was justified, pointing to a "suicide by cop" scenario.
On Friday, just minutes before PBC Credit Union closed, the state attorney's office said Chris Thompson, 18, brought a .22 caliber rifle into the parking lot and shot it with the purpose of dying.
"I was in this position here right in front of the light bar so I could see him, trying to provide myself with some cover and that's when knew the fact that shots had been fired and my car had been hit," said Sgt. William Gale of PBSO during a video walk thru of the scene released by the state attorney's office.
Gale explained in the video what happened just hours after the shooting took place.
He told investigators when arriving on scene, Thompson shot at him.
Gale said he raised his shotgun and fired back fearing for his safety.
"He just stood there for what seems like a few seconds. So I wasn't sure if he was hit or hurt," said Gale.
Investigators said Thompson went to a nearby curb and sat down after being shot with his rifle still at his side.
Shortly after, two other deputies would arrive, backing up Gale as they moved in to arrest Thompson.
"I think Deputy Booth came up and stuck his foot on the guys arm to try and keep him from grabbing it, at which time the guy took his hand and rifle and pulled from underneath his foot. At which point I was in fear that he might start shooting us and other people in the parking lot and I discharged my firearm," said Keith Strokes, a PBSO deputy during a video walk thru released by the state attorney's office.

The Fairfield Police Department reports officers were called to the 5300 block of Avenue D about 1:30am CT, on a report of a man lying in the street.
When officers arrived, they found Duntrell Goins, 17, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Medics later pronounced him dead on the scene.
