Culpeper police fire officer after murder charge while on duty



Culpeper, Va., police fired the officer who is charged with killing a Sunday s chool teacher while on duty in February, town officials said in a statement.

Daniel Harmon-Wright, 32, was terminated on Tuesday after police completed an internal affairs investigation into the fatal shooting of 54-year-old Patricia Cook after he responded to a suspicious-person call. Officials provided no details of the department’s investigation.

Harmon-Wright, of Gainesville, was indicted in May on a murder charge and three weapons charges.

The shooting happened after someone called police when Cook parked her Jeep Wrangler into the lot of a Catholic school in Culpeper and reported a suspicious vehicle. The former officer claims he fired in self-defense after she trapped his fingers in the Jeep’s windows and began driving away.

I find it ironic that city management will listen to law enforcement when it comes to their concerns over more citizen rights and freedoms that police find objectionable, but when it comes to the thugs they want to hire that will cost hundreds of thousands or millions, all in the prospect of bullying those very citizens, they turn a deaf ear.

I find it ironic that you post lots of statements critical of police from behind your keyboard while declining to deliver your protests in person. But maybe that's just me.

Two bodies were discovered at the Beverly Hilton hotel today in an apparent murder-suicide, just hours before the Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony, which is being held at the iconic hotel.


Police responded to a report of a shooting at the hotel late Friday night.


A man and a woman were found dead, apparently from gunshot wounds, in a room at the hotel.

Firefighters called to a fire in a building in Manhattan’s Chinatown found two women lying in a smoke-filled ground-floor apartment.

After carrying them outside, the firefighters determined that both women were dead.

But they had not been killed by the fire; they had been shot before it started...

A 20-year-old man was shot to death in Antioch Saturday, police said.


Officers responded at 4:18 a.m. to a report of a gunshot victim lying in the street in the 800 block of L and Ninth streets, according to a news release from Lt. Diane Aguinaga.


The victim was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.

A Riverside woman was found shot to death in the middle of a street in a quiet residential neighborhood just west of Riverside Community College, and officers today said they seek both a motive for the crime, and the identity of the shooter, City News Service reported Sunday.

San Antonio Police Homicide detectives are investigating the murder of a man found shot to death at a South Side motel.


Investigators say the man was found by his girlfriend between two buildings at the Royal Inn Motel in the 1500 block of Roosevelt Avenue Sunday.
