NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly said a fatal shooting at the Crossroads of the World was appropriate. “I think the police responded appropriately,” Kelly told reporters Sunday.


Mayor Bloomberg also said the shooting appeared to be justified. “He had a knife and he was going after people,” the mayor told reporters.


Darius Kennedy, who had ten prior arrests, was within three feet of the officers and was threatening them when they unloaded their weapons, according to NYPD spokesman Paul Browne.


The confrontation began when a cop spied Kennedy smoking marijuana at 44th St and 7th Ave. just after 3 p.m. Saturday.

Kennedy grew belligerent, and when police attempted to cuff him, he struggled free, pulling an Ikea kitchen knife with a six-inch blade out of his pocket and waving it over his head.


He backed down 7th Ave for seven blocks as more cops amassed.


Kennedy was pepper-sprayed six times by four cops to little effect.


Two police cars pulled onto the sidewalk, attempting to block Kennedy’s path down 7th Ave. as he approached 37th St.


The madman squeezed past the first vehicle before its driver could get out, but officers from the second car jumped out to confront him.


As Kennedy lunged at the two cops with his knife, they fired 12 times.


Kennedy was hit at least seven times, officials said.


He died at Bellevue Hospital from gunshot wounds...

Police took a man into custody Monday after "multiple people" were shot near Texas A&M University, a police official said.

Several law enforcement officers were among the people shot, Rhonda Seaton of the College Station Police Department told CNN.

She didn't have information on how many people were shot or their conditions.

She said a person identified as the gunman was in custody.

Joe Walsh (R-IL) released a statement warning that radical Islam was trying to “kill Amerians,” police say that shots from a “high-velocity air rifle” narrowly missed a security guard at the Muslim Education Center near Chicago, while about 500 Muslims prayed inside during Ramadan services.

According to a statement from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the FBI was investigating a possible hate crime after David Conrad was arrested for firing at least two shots into the the mosque.

A press release from Morton Grove police said that off-duty police officers working as security guards saw someone firing shots from Conrad’s home. The release indicated that a high-velocity air rifle had been confiscated from the home.

Security guards told police that there had also been “a number” of other incidents of mosque damage that had not been reported.

Conrad had reportedly attended community meetings in 2003 and 2004 to oppose the mosque, neighbor Berdella Wehrmacher, 90, told the The Chicago Tribune.

“We fought to keep it away, not because it was a mosque but because they took away our park,”.

Sounds like one of those liberal weenies that protests and climbs up a tree to live for a few weeks. Good thing he did not go on a shooting spree with that air rifle, could have been a lot of broken windows.

CHICAGO (CBS) – No one was killed in a rash of shootings in Chicago over the weekend, but at least 21 people were injured.

The Sun-Times Media Wire reports the bloodiest shooting happened on Saturday evening, at a gas station in the 6600 block of busy South Halsted Street in the Englewood neighborhood.

In campaign remarks yesterday at the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago, Illinois, President Barack Obama praised his adopted city, where he lived before becoming president of the United States. “Chicago is an example of what makes this country great,” Obama said.


No mention that Chicago's homicide rate, is one of the highest in the nation. But what else would I expect from someone who is completely clueless of the violence in his own hometown.

Assistant Chief of Police Scott McCollum said police shot and killed the College Station gunman after he allegedly murdered a police officer and a civilian in a house on Fidelity Street near the Texas A&M campus.

A 22-year-old Texas woman was found shot to death Monday in a Gold Coast hotel room.

Early in the day, police were calling the incident a death investigation, but around 4:30 p.m. Monday they had reclassified it as a murder.

A drive-by shooting in Hartford has left a man dead.

Hartford police say the victim, a man in his 40s, was standing on Sterling street when he was hit by gunfire from a passing car.

Police say witnesses reported hearing at least four shots.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers with the San Antonio Police Department Gang Unit arrested 52-year-old Baron Jeffrey Hunt Wednesday.

Hunt is charged with the murder of 27-year-old Anthony Smertneck.

Police say Smertneck was chased down and shot to death late Monday night as he and a friend were walking near the intersection of Nacogdoches and El Charro.

Police were called to Southwest Medical Center after a man came into the emergency room with a gunshot wound in the genitals.

Donnell Colbert told police he was on his way to sell a gun when when he pulled over to the check the gun.

He said he'd had problems with it earlier and wanted to make sure it was functioning properly.

The gun went off, and he shot himself in the penis.

Police told Colbert because he had prior felony convictions it was illegal for him to own a gun.

Colbert said he was aware of that, and that's why he was trying to sell the weapon.

This is an excellent example of how gun laws do not work. But other than that is says nothing about any gun laws in action. Unless you would like to clarify what you meant when you wrote the title of the thread?
 
Cop-killing gunners score

Two Louisiana sheriff's deputies were killed in a early-morning shootout at a trailer park outside New Orleans after being led there in pursuit of suspects from an earlier incident in which two other officers were shot and wounded.



Five suspects are currently in custody, as authorities try to figure out what first led gunmen to open fire on cops patrolling a parking lot near a steel plant and oil refinery in LaPlace, Louisiana...
