October 2020 Import Highlights
Monthly data on the origins of crude oil imports in October 2020 show that one country, Canada, exported more than one million barrels per day to the United States (see table below). The top five exporting countries accounted for 86% of United States crude oil imports in October while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 94% of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top five sources of U.S. crude oil imports for October were Canada (3.4 million b/d), Mexico (472,000 b/d), Saudi Arabia (276,000 b/d), Colombia (196,000 b/d), and Ecuador (154,000 b/d). The remaining top ten sources, in order, were Russia (145,000 b/d), Iraq (121,000 b/d), Brazil ( 80,000 b/d), Angola ( 66,000 b/d), and United Kingdom ( 45,000 b/d). Total crude oil imports averaged 5.3 million b/d in October, which was a decrease of 104,000 b/d from imports during September 2020.
