The largest drop in domestic oil production in US history was Trump's drop in 2020.

Why did Trump declare a war on oil in 2020?
 
If you want energy independence, then nationalize the oil industry so Exxon can't sell the oil extracted here to China.

Anything short of that will not even come close to independence.
