Gwen Ifill

Ifill does? She is definitely no liberal. I'd call her a pretty non-partisan moderate. I'm going to go look it up now. I feel as if liberals complained about her moderation of a gore or Kerry debate? I want to look that up too. Maybe I am wrong…though, what are the chances right SF?

I actually like her as a moderator... but with a book coming out on one of the candidates effects on politics... not so much.

I agree that she is not an uber liberal or anything. IT is not her political views that bothers me. One way or another she is now a distraction.

well her retirement in the market tanked , she has to get retirement money somehow.

Has anyone read the book? Know what it is about?

I understand the reasons for working the refs, but for knuckleheads on this board to castigate Ifill over a book they know nothing about notwithstanding her years and years of experience as an unbiased political reporter is total horseshit.

No, given that it HASN'T been released yet, I doubt many people have read it.

the Title should give you a clue as to what it is about.....

""The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama." "

Again, I think she is a good moderator. However, with her book timed for release at the same time the next President (presumably Obama) is sworn in.... she obviously benefits if Obama wins. So there is good reason to suspect bias... it is called conflict of interest. She should not be moderating debates because of this.

Because even if she goes hard on Biden and easy on Palin to show how "unbiased" she is... that is still wrong.

There are reasons judges recuse themselves from cases where they have a conflict of interest. This same standard should be held for moderators.

There is a huge headline on FoxNews this morning, under a picture of Gwen, "In the Tank?"

They really make no effort to hide where they're coming from...

the beauty of fox news business position. You don't have to hide anything from party driven idiots.

Well, it sounds much more like an academic-type book rather than a pro-Obama book. I’m sure it is, considering her background. However, since the right wing has shown they can destroy careers if they are not toadied to, I think this poisons the well. She is far more likely to go soft on palin. The McCain lady with the unpronounceable name and injected lips has already “warned” ifill about being tough on Palin by asking too many foreign policy questions, so they are already working the refs and making certain they are threatened. I think this risks an even bigger courting of Palin by showing her “deference”. I mean, what has to be done to appease the R’s on this? Does someone have to walk out and offer to wash Palin’s ass? I know the Pope does that once a year with feet, to show humility.
I think this is just asking for more trouble with these lunatics. Though I usually do not agree with appeasing them in any way whatsoever, I think that in this case, it does poison the well, and would end up helping Palin, assuming she shows up.

Then I apologize to Epi .. but the post quoted him incorrectly.

I like Epi and had I known it was him I would have suspected he was being misquoted.

Thanks

Aww come on, bac. You know me better than that. I'm not one for patronizing, condescending lectures of a quasi-motivational and vaguely racist nature.

probably the same Malkin article that is found in the Post?

Wow - it is. When I clicked on it, it goes to Malkin's article.

That's hardcore for the cover of a "news" site. It would be like CNN putting a story by Michael Moore as their headline.

LOL. Of course you do.
Please. Look at the release date. I think this is one of those books that will be released "if", that is all.

I don't think her book will change the debate at all, it is silly to think it would. I couldn't care any less about her book other than that.

that is why I watch CNN for news.

BAAHAAHAAHHHHH--BAAHAHHHH--GLOBAL WARMIKNG IS REAL--PALIN IS TRAILER TRASH---BAAAAAHH----BAAAHHHH---KARL MARX IS MY DAAAAAAAAADDDD. I DRINK KOOL AAHAAHAAIIIDDDD. I HAVE NOT MY OWN MIIIIHIHIHND. I AM THE SHEEEEEEEEEEEEPLE---I AM OWNED.

In THE BREAKTHROUGH, veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama’s stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power.

Ifill argues that the Black political structure formed during the Civil Rights movement is giving way to a generation of men and women who are the direct beneficiaries of the struggles of the 1960s. She offers incisive, detailed profiles of such prominent leaders as Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, and U.S. Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama, and also covers up-and-coming figures from across the nation. Drawing on interviews with power brokers like Senator Obama, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Vernon Jordan, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, and many others, as well as her own razor-sharp observations and analysis of such issues as generational conflict and the "black enough" conundrum, Ifill shows why this is a pivotal moment in American history.

THE BREAKTHROUGH is a remarkable look at contemporary politics and an essential foundation for understanding the future of American democracy.

I’m really tired of having to waste my time arguing bullshit with you. Read that book description and if you believe that there is even a remote possibility that the publication of this book is dependent on an actual obama presidency, then see an education specialist. I only have so much time in a day.
