The way things are going right now, I don't think we're in danger of being attacked by trumptards. Since trump has trashed our economy, it's more likely that trumptards - at least the ones who depend on their retirement funds being viable will team up with us!

I don't, but my wife and daughter do, and my my mother carried hers for years, even when it was 'illegal'. She worked at a hospital in a high crime area, and police officers back then were looking the other way re women defending themselves from scum, unlike democrats of today, who think it should be legal to rape and murder women.

How many times have I used my pistol in self-defense? None.

How many times have I used my pistol to put an animal, hit by a car, out of it's misery? 3 times.

How many times have I stopped on a lonely country road to offer assistance? Quite a few times, often at night. And I would not have done so if I had not been armed.



I'm curious, what do most people carry? My main carry pistol is a Springfield M1911. I also have an old Ruger Security-Six I inherited from my Dad. That old workhorse rides with me sometimes.

I can think of a couple of reasons you would need a gun in a car.

#1 - The criminal is also in a car, shooting at you.
#2 - For safety when you arrive very late at night (especially in sparsely populated areas).

Whether he is prejudiced or not, New Orleans has a very high violent crime rate. But, unlike many other major cities, the violent crime tends to be local-on-local and in neighborhoods that tourists don't go into.

Both are good. A good point about a heavier car gun. At the moment I carry a Ruger EC9 and have a Taurus stainless steel .38 Special in the car.

Both good reasons, although with #1, defensive driving would my first step. Specifically slowing or stopping. If they come back, that's when it'd be nice to have a large caliber gun to shoot through their windshield.

Let's take a situation that is a bit more vague. You see another driver with something that looks like a gun. In most US states, you have no obligation to retreat, so you can shoot the other driver in self defense. In most of the rest of the world, you have an obligation to retreat. That means only when absolutely cornered can you claim self defense, so you are required to flee in the car you are lucky to be in.

Now lets say the gun is not real. Or the other driver had no intention to shoot you. Or whatever. The point is that in the rest of the world the other driver is not dead, and in the USA the other driver is another victim of mistaken self defense.
