Reality check on America's racial mindset.

When I was in school I had a teammate that lived in the West Oakland projects and one that lived in East Oakland projects. When I would go visit them or pick them up for practice I could see people staring at me like 'wth is this white dude doing down here?' No one ever did anything to me but they sure looked at me funny. Was that racist?

Maybe they were admiring your looks

Where you living there for 3 years? Nope. So your story isn't relevant. Remember, I'm not talking about somebody just passing through or the occasional visit. My statement stands valid.

For someone who has lived in the neighborhood for three years I would be pissed too. I agree.

For stating what happened to this woman and saying that's America's mindset and tying it to voting I don't agree on.

As an aside look at the last election where as a percentage blacks turned out in higher numbers than whites. If people feel others are trying to make it more difficult for them to vote they might continue to turn out in high numbers to fight back. One of those unintended consequences things.

For all those who think that the recent SCOTUS ruling regarding the Voting Rights Act and subsequent actions by various "red" states are valid, here's a real life reality check:

Today I bumped into my next door neighbor's kid, who is now all grown up, married and with 2 kids of her own. For the past 3 years her family has lived in a town on Long Island, New York that has only 6% black population. She said to this day neighborhood people constantly ask her how some elderly white folk are doing....they ASSUME she is either a live in nurse or domestic. Also, she and her family are STILL stared at when they visit the local pool complex...as if the locals haven't seen black folk before.

So please, don't tell me that this type of mindset does not permeate decisions regarding voting rights.

What the fuck does any of that have to do with "voting rights?"

changing voting laws to keep black folk from voting is the same mentality

Who’s changing voting laws to keep blacks from voting? What’s in those voting laws that prevent any black or folks of any color skin from exercising their right to vote? Can you explain the accusation or are you just blowing smoke out your leftist asshole?

North Carolina for one. There's a lot more. And if you don't think they WEREN'T targeting why was there a rash of new laws after sect 4 of the Voting Rights Act was repealed !

And just what is it in the North Carolina law that discriminates unequally against anybody of any race gender or economic situation Goober?

I said it was a reality check on America's racial mindset.....meaning that I gave a real life example that there is STILL a strong subliminal prejudice/bigotry out there, as opposed to the underlying claptrap by the right wing that we no longer need the voting rights act because the type of racism that existed before is not in existence now.

Remember, just because you don't see a cross burning doesn't mean there isn't a sheet tucked in under some folks pants.

As for all the red states reverting to the old tactics to prevent a large black turnout at the polls, you need the federal gov't to step in, because you can't vote if they won't let you (or make it damned hard to do so).

I'll spell it out for you:

It's inconceivable to these folk that a black family can live just like them in their neighborhood...go to work, pay bills, raise kids. So if some neocon/teabagger/libertarian lunkhead comes along an tells them that the voting rights act need no longer apply, they're more likely to accept that lie and all it entails.

Remember, want scared the shit out of Americans is when Ron Paul stated on national television that he would support the right of a diner owner to discriminate against someone by not allowing them seats or service. So it's no big leap of that mindset to allow all the voter suppression BS to resurface.

I love it when stupes like you get all flustered because someone points out what a compliant little shit you are when it comes to this country's dismal history on race relations. Below is a primer for you:

Yep. And, Coca-Cola settled for $192.5 million, Texaco settled for $176 million, and all these dolts can scream about is Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.

Yep! While Jackson & Sharpton have done things that I am NOT in 100% agreement with, they wouldn't be needed if the aforementioned crap didn't exist.

What does it entail? They can still vote. No different than before.

Voting is a right.

Businesses can refuse service to anyone at this time. Which means businesses have rights. Being honest, if some racist didn't want me in their store, because of my color, I wouldn't want to spend my money there. This has nothing to do with voting though. Poor example.

Yeah right! The good old New York Times that bastion of biased fucking leftwing non-facts and innuendo.

Here’s the NY Times argument,

“The law requires a government-issued photo ID card to vote, but doesn’t allow student IDs, public-employee IDs, or photo IDs issued by public assistance agencies. It shortens the early voting window, bans same-day registration during early voting and prohibits paid voter registration drives. Counties will not be able to extend voting hours in cases of long lines, or allow provisional voting if someone arrives at the wrong precinct. Poll “observers” are encouraged to challenge people who show up to vote, and are given new powers to do so.”(NY Times, Opinion Page)

Of course you’re gonna allow my confused ignorant ass to ask for your fucking pea-brain explanation of just exactly “where in the North Carolina Law is anybody prevented from voting who is legally eligible to vote?” “Where is any unequal hardship placed on any person of color, gender or economic condition?”

Oh! That’s right y’all fucking leftist bastards have never been able to answer those questions yet about voting rights laws. The fact is the reason the fucking leftist bastards like you are all up in arms about voting rights laws is because you know your fucking crooked Democrat Party wants to and is bribing the vote of the thousands of illegal non-citizens that are in the country with government socialist programs and you’ve had them illegally voting for years now and your scared that voting rights laws will RIGHTFULLY prevent them from voting.
