He built wind farms all over the state and these now supply nearly a third of Texas's electricity. They have been an economic loss to the state and Pickens sold off his shares in them early on because he saw that. Now the state is stuck with a fucked up, unreliable, source of electricity that can't easily be replaced because of the cost.
