They have been an economic loss to the state and Pickens sold off his shares in them early on because he saw that. Now the state is stuck with a fucked up, unreliable, source of electricity that can't easily be replaced because of the cost.

Oil is the problem as it does not work to replace gas or coal.
Coal is the problem as it does not work to replace gas or oil.

You see, on this planet, a fuel source has to "replace" another to have value and not just augment or work in 'addition too', and if not it, has no value.

So if you see a farm with a few wind mills and solar panels they use in 'ADDITION' to the fossil fuels they burn, that is a problem as it did not REPLACE the fossil fuels. It just lessened the reliance on them and balanced their power needs amongst more sources.
