I have a question for you seeing your the only lawyer on the left on this board who’s given objective legal opinions.
I read a couple of articles, one in the NYT, one on USAToday, saying it sets a bad precedent for a local DA , grand jury, whatever, to charge someone for a federal crime.
E.g., what’s to stop a Republican DA say in Boise, ID from investigating and charging Biden two years after he leaves office (assuming he’s alive) for some of his questionable dealings while he was VP?
Legally, how or why is it possible for a local DA to prosecute Trump for something that has nothing to do with the borough of Manhattan?
The campaign was national, not local.

A state prosecutor cannot prosecute a Federal crime.

The charges against Trump will all be state crimes.

These crimes may have to do with a State law that says filing official paperwork that is fraudulent is a crime. It just so happens that the reason Trump filed the papers that were fraudulent required to be filed by federal agencies.

Trumppers are trying to confuse people into believing it’s a federal crime.
