Ordinary Ukrainians were willing to sacrifice their own lives to protect their country.... Russians are not doing the same. There are absolutely no stories of ordinary Russians forming up into ad hoc units to defend Russia.

Ukraine already has air superiority over Ukraine, but not air supremacy.
I really do not see an easy way for them to get air supremacy.
The right of self defense does not end at the border. Because Russia invaded Ukraine first, there is no limit, under international law, to how far Ukraine can go to invade Russia.
Why can't you say "war"? Why do you have to use "special military operations" instead of war? Where are you that you do not feel safe saying war?
The Russia Army has already stolen homes from Ukrainians. Those Ukrainians go to other parts of Ukraine, and the EU. They then complain about the situation. Now the Russian Army will steal homes from Russians, and where will those Russians go and complain? They will go to other parts of Russia, so Russians will hear how incompetent Putin is.
This is not good for Putin.

No doubt there are oligarchs who would dearly love to see Putin overthrown; the question in that case is his replacement going to be better or worse? Russian 'culture' doesn't present much in the way of 'better'.

Whether it was internal sabotage, or just incompetence, Putin is weak. And Ukraine is surprisingly strong.
They are going to bring another point of view, and another strategy to NATO. That will be good for NATO, and NATO's strategies will be good for Finland. It will be good for everyone... Except Putin.
Sweden and Finland just joined NATO. That is the opposite of looking east, that is looking west for their future. Norway, Denmark, and Iceland are already in NATO. There is nothing that could even vaguely be called Scandinavia that is looking to leave NATO.

Russia certainly put everything they had into trying to capture Odesa. As a Russian speaking city, it would be a natural fit. The Odesans fought hard, so there is little chance Putin will get his wish.
