Were Confederate soldiers terrorists?

Is Straw Man your only debate tactic?

That wasn't debate. That was simply a sarcastic remark in reply to your post.

But it is also a true statement. It is doubtful that you paid enough taxes to cover all that you used.

is the straw man.

That was sarcasm, and I think you know it.

But your post of "Regardless, what my parents and I have paid in taxes has more than offset any minor contribution that state or federal governments has contributed to my education" is only accurate if you got to choose where your tax money went.

I doubt the taxes you and your parents had paid covered the other services you enjoyed as an american citizen.

You say its sarcasm then ask the same question. :palm:

It was posted as sarcasm, but the question was valid. Is this too difficult a concept? Of course, I can see that you are using your favorite debate tactic again. You do love to divert the topic away from the one in which you are losing. At least you are consistent.

Southern Old Man has has such a long life in so many places, like Mass, NY, and the pro-Union Piedmont, that he may be having trouble remembering things as they actually happened.

Straw man

Definition: One way of making our own arguments stronger is to anticipate and respond in advance to the arguments that an opponent might make. In the straw man fallacy, the arguer sets up a wimpy version of the opponent's position and tries to score points by knocking it down. But just as being able to knock down a straw man, or a scarecrow, isn't very impressive, defeating a watered-down version of your opponents' argument isn't very impressive either.

Example: "Feminists want to ban all pornography and punish everyone who reads it! But such harsh measures are surely inappropriate, so the feminists are wrong: porn and its readers should be left in peace." The feminist argument is made weak by being overstated—in fact, most feminists do not propose an outright "ban" on porn or any punishment for those who merely read it; often, they propose some restrictions on things like child porn, or propose to allow people who are hurt by porn to sue publishers and producers, not readers, for damages. So the arguer hasn't really scored any points; he or she has just committed a fallacy.

Tip: Be charitable to your opponents. State their arguments as strongly, accurately, and sympathetically as possible. If you can knock down even the best version of an opponent's argument, then you've really accomplished something.

Straw man or Red Herring, take your choice.

Bullshit, SM.

You said "Regardless, what my parents and I have paid in taxes has more than offset any minor contribution that state or federal governments has contributed to my education.

When I left NY a lib-tard friend of mine postulated that I owed that state for my wife's education, since she received a graduate degree from a NYS university. I told him that based on the difference in the taxes between NC and NYS, over the period of time that her parents and I paid NY taxes, NYS in fact owed us."

The ONLY way the statement you made is not an outright lie is if your taxes went to the agencies that contribute to your education. I called you on that. It is not a red herring or a strawman.

You made a false claim.

My taxes went through the Dept of Revenue for NYS. You're being silly to suggest that I can direct them what to do with the money, or that my dollar is somehow different than another dollar that someone else paid.

Instead of addressing my argument directly, you prefer this mental masturbation. I'm not interested.

And to state that you and your parents paid enough in taxes to cover all the things you used, services you had available, or had done for you is a flat out lie.

Its not mental masturbation just because I do not state things in the manner of your choosing. The statement about you getting to choose where your tax dollars went was sarcasm. You still seem to be having difficulty with that concept. I will start posting a disclaimer when I use sarcasm from now on.
