The colonies formed a confederacy. There was no federal government. Later they reorganized into a new confederacy and created a federal layer of government.

Various American Indian tribes formed confederacies. They still do. A local confederacy here in Washington is known as the Tulalip. They are made up of several tribes in the area. Like our own federal government, they formed a government to oversee the confederacy by creating a constitution.

The CSA existed, but was destroyed by the terms of surrender.

The Soviet Union never achieved Communism.

The idea of Marxism is that after the government makes everything equal, the state withers away and you just have an equal society. The issue is that the government never actually steps down.

The old excuse. No, the Soviet Union was communism. Government owns everything. The Utopia promised is not possible.
