Then let's remove the offensive monuments and replace them with something honoring a positive historical person or event in that particular locale. I hate to see these statues destroyed because in their own way, they are art. So let's put them in museums where they can be used to teach the history surrounding their creation. Or sell them to private collectors who are then free to display them on their own property. Having a monument to someone who fought against the U.S. on govt. property is giving tacit approval to what he/she did.

There were a significant number of white southerners who remained loyal to the United States, not to mention I believe there is a deficit of monuments in the South for abolitionists and black civil rights leaders.

David Farragut was a southerner who remained loyal to the United States, became the Union's most famous naval admiral, and was responsible for recapturing New Orleans from the Confederate rebels.

There should be at least as many monuments in the South of Admiral Farragat as there are of General Lee.

True. There are dozens of actual heroic historical figures that could be honored with monuments, from local people to state or national figures.
