Don't know if he was or not but he sure as hell wasn't a responsible gun owner.

Why wasn't the safety on? If you aren't holding the weapon getting ready to shoot, shouldn't the safety be on?

Seriously, it seems like we could have some kind of technical solution that the safety returns to the "on" position when the gun is laid to the side, hasn't been fired in the last 10 seconds, or something.
And the safety should NOT be something a 4 yr old can click off.

I'm just tired of blaming every gun accident on the owner. YES, the owner should be more responsible. But we didn't do that with car accidents. We didn't say "oh well, he plowed into the barrier, his passenger died, it's an irresponsible driver" - we did things to prevent "collateral damage" - seat belts, air bags, higher crash standards, child car seats... things that make it less likely that a car accident will kill someone "by accident" . And this worked. Yes, people still die in car crashes, but not as many as used to.

Not a one of the pro-gun advocates want to discuss this.

It's apparent that "irresponsibility" cuts a wide swath across all demographics of gun owners.
Until 2nd amendment supporters agree to sit down for some meaningful discussion, nothing is going to happen.

no, but if you or any others actually come up with a valid idea, please try it out on law enforcement first instead of exempting them from whatever new rules/regulations/restrictions you decide to try.
Law enforcement officers go through extensive training. Civilians obviously don't.

extensive training? is that how 6 people in NYC got injured by two cops shooting a shotgun wielding suspect? or how LAPD shot up a truck carrying two women delivering newspapers because they thought is was Dorner? that extensive training?
