Trump says he plans to put a 100% tariff on computer chips, likely pushing up cost of electronics

Silicon comes from sand, Wally. Integrated circuits are not etched.

ASML isn't the only company making ultraviolet lithography machines, Wally.

Not the only companies, Wally.

So?

The United States makes mirrors, Wally.

The United States makes lasers, Wally.

Nope. They are made all over the world, Wally.

Nope. Chemical purification takes place all over the world, Wally.

Taiwan is not a war zone. South Korea is not a war zone.
LSI chips are also made in the Japan, the United States, Mexico, and in the EU.

You don't get to speak for everyone in Taiwan, Wally. You only get to speak for you. Omniscience fallacy.

China won't invade them. That would destroy China's supply of chips.
Hence, the name, Never Right Walter.

The company ASML is the world's sole producer of these systems. However, the U.S. company KLA Corporation is a key player in the broader EUV ecosystem, providing crucial components like metrology and inspection equipment, which are essential for the high-density microchip manufacturing enabled by EUV technology

American companies that make surface mount (SMT) machines include DDM Novastar, which targets small and medium-sized businesses and prototype development, and Nordson Corporation, a major player in the SMT equipment market.Other significant SMT companies in the US include KLA Corporation, which is a key player in the market, and Aerotech, Inc., which is listed as a manufacturer of mounters in the United States.

I have seen Surface Mount machines in operation and they are amazing.

As I said.

So the sole Dutch company is the sole producer of ultraviolet lithography machines, and there are various other companies around the world(including the USA) that provide essential parts of the production? Which is exactly what I said.

High end chip production has become a complex international network of sole providing experts. It would cost quite a bit of money and time to try to replace that.

I used to be quite impressed with it, back in the 1980's. It was originally invented by the East Germans, back before the wall came down.

See the words in the big letters, Uneducated?

Look at them very closely and think really really hard about what they mean....

I know you can do it if you try hard.

Then, once you figure it out, ask yourself if GM is still partially owned by the dang ol' gub'mint or if it's back to solely private ownership.

Don't be afraid to do some Googlin'!!!

Finally, if your poor shrivelled little "brain" isn't all pooped and tuckered out, ask yourself if trump's SOCIALIST deal with Intel is only temporary or if it is on a long term/permanent basis.

Poor little moron.

So, you're a fucking liar as well as stupid, noballs?

We already knew that.

Yes - Obama nationalized GM.

Yes - Obama nationalized GM.
Obama placed some temporary, limited government controls on GM in order for them to get bailed out and continue to function. Had he not bailed them out, they would cease to exist. That is limited nationalization.

trump has taken partial ownership of Intel for free. It is open ended, until the government decides to sell their ownership. That is unlimited partial nationalization.

Typical sorry-ass trumpsucker tactic.

When you get called on your provably false bullshit, you double down on it.

Why? Because you can't take being proven wrong.

Which in turn, is obviously because you have noballs.

I love how your own AI link confirmed that, yep - Obama nationalized GM.

Sorry to break it to you noballs - the earth is round, gravity exists, and Obama nationalized GM.

Deal with it.

You can't lie reality away.

Yes, and J6 was just a peaceful gathering.

Fuck you if you think I'm going to indulge you and your childish word games.

I've explained the difference between what Obama did with GM and the SOCIALIST deal trump is cooking up with Intel.

If you cannot acknowledge what I said it's because you have noballs.

I said that Obama had a limited nationalization of GM, and that trump has an unlimited partial nationalization of Intel. That is just reality.

I explained that to him but he'd rather just double down on the lies and stupidity.

They do not even read your response before lying again about what you said. There is no real communication going on here.

It is like when @Damocles came up with a weird lie about my wife. I corrected him five times, but he kept saying the lie about my wife. I think the freak might be obsessed with my wife for some reason.

Yes, and J6 was just a peaceful gathering.

The only day that ever existed for the pathetic communist vermin...

Fuck you if you think I'm going to indulge you and your childish word games.

Childish games as all anyone will ever get from you, noballs.

I've explained the difference between what Obama did with GM and the SOCIALIST deal trump is cooking up with Intel.

Obama god - Orange man bad.

We get it, comrade.

If you cannot acknowledge what I said it's because you have noballs.

You've said nothing. You lie and throw temper tantrums because NO FAIR Trump kept Obama from a 4th term.

I said that Obama had a limited nationalization of GM, and that trump has an unlimited partial nationalization of Intel. That is just reality.

As always - you're lying.

A 10% stake is not a controlling interest - hence is not nationalization. Obama took not only the controlling interest in GM - but also operational control, as communist dictators tend to do.

I have already said this is a bad idea by Trump. We have no business involved in private companies. But you lying about it isn't convincing anyone other than your fringe communist buddies - who read the same hate script you do.

Taiwan has never signed a treaty ending its war with China, they just created a ceasefire. South Korea and North Korea have never ended their war, they just created a ceasefire. These are technically war zones, but with frozen wars. In theory, the wars could start up again at any time.

They are all technically at war, but de facto not so much.
yes defacto.

China is trying to eat our lunch and you're on their side.

A 10% stake is not a controlling interest - hence is not nationalization.
GM was not completely controlled by the government, so by your theory that would not be nationalization.

In fact, there does not have to be any control to make it nationalization. If there is government ownership or control, it is nationalization. Intel is being 10% nationalized. Well, a little more than 10%, because trump is demanding golden share rights to have full control under certain circumstances.

China is trying to eat our lunch and you're on their side.
Humanity is on the verge of making robots that can do most of the actions of human beings. Two thirds of he companies that make the components of these robots are in China. That leaves one third that is outside China, which is enough for us to progress as long as we have strong alliances.

Queue trump.

trump is tearing up our alliances, and creating high tariff walls to any innovation. The Chinese will not have these high tariff walls, so will win the competition for general robots.

Because of trump, they will definitely eat our lunch on this, and many other races. And you will keep pointing at me saying it is my fault. I am literally doing everything I can think of to hold this sinking ship together. I cannot do it on my own. We need trump to stop destroying America.

we can make them here.

you're just negative.

we can make them here.
There is a lot of specializing that goes into making high tech components, which require specialists. That takes decades to develop. trump is eroding our universities as we speak, so the clock on those decades would start when he left office.

The Chinese are within months or maybe a few years of cost effective general robots. We do not have decades.

With the industrial revolution, you were either one of the first, or you were in the third world. There were second and third waves of opportunities to get into the first world, but they were more difficult, and massively delayed.

There is a real chance we may end up in the new third world (with the third world slipping into the fourth world). If we end up in the third world trap, it might take a century to get out of it... And we might never.

wow.

that sounds pretty scary.

we better do dumb shit because you say so.

:truestory:

if china's an enemy we shoudd have done tariffs 30 years ago.

better late than never.

how am I wrong?
